Before touching a rider's wheelchair, always ask for their recommendation on how to best handle and store the assistive device.
Wheelchairs that do not require a ramp or lift may be stored in a trunk or behind a seat.
Folding wheelchairs may be collapsed by taking off the seat cushion and lifting up on the seat by removing a release bar or pull a cord.
Non-folding wheelchairs can be disassembled by removing the rear wheels. Press the button at the center of the wheel in and hold it down while pulling the wheel out. To replace, press the button in while attaching the wheel. Check each wheel to make sure it is secure. Remember to lift the wheelchair by its frame for safety.
