2-factor authentication (2FA)

2-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection to your Uber for Business accounts, helping to safeguard against unauthorized access and data breaches. This security measure requires users to provide two authentication factors to verify their identity before granting access.

Benefits

Adopting 2FA for your Uber for Business account can have the following advantages:

• Enhanced security by verifying user identity with two different methods
• Reduced risk of unauthorized access even if a password is compromised
• Increased confidence in the security of business operations

2FA methods

Once 2FA is enabled, users will use both their password and one of the below additional verification factors when signing in:

• Mobile OTP (one-time password): Receive a temporary, unique code on your registered mobile device
  • Only the authorized user with access to the registered mobile device can complete the authentication process
• Connected social apps: Connect to social apps (like Google, Apple)
  • Use the verification process of these social platforms as one of the factors to sign in to your dashboard
  • Read our data privacy notice related to third-party applications
• Authenticator app OTP (one-time password): Use a time-sensitive, unique code generated by an authenticator app
  • Requires a mobile device to download the authenticator app
  • Verification codes are generated by the authenticator app, so no phone number is attached to the account
  • This verification code can be used to sign in to all Uber surfaces (both mobile and web)
  • Authenticator apps work offline, making this a good option if you travel frequently or request rides from devices other than your mobile phone

You might only verify with 2FA once per device, as verification is triggered for certain logins based on our established risk logic.

Turn on 2FA via authenticator app

You can turn this on for your individual admin account using the instructions below. Enabling this won’t affect the login process for other users in your dashboard:

1. Sign in to account.uber.com, or in the Uber app select Account > Manage Uber account
2. Go to the Security tab, then select Authenticator app
3. Follow the steps listed on the Authentication instructions page and complete the integration
4. Open the authenticator app and copy the 6-digit code
5. Enter the 6-digit code and select Next to activate 2FA protection using the authenticator app

You’ll be prompted to save and store backup codes in a safe place. If you lose your phone and need to access your account, these codes will help you sign in to your Uber account.

All authenticator apps are supported, but Duo and Google Authenticator are recommended.

Turn off 2FA via authenticator app

1. Sign in to account.uber.com, or in the Uber app select Account > Manage Uber account
2. Go to the Security tab
3. Select Authenticator app
4. Select Remove to turn off 2FA using the authenticator app
