To drive or deliver with Uber, you need to pass a background check. This applies everywhere except New York City, where you’ll get a notice of conditional engagement first. No credit check is involved.
Duration for background check
- Expect 3-5 business days for completion, though sometimes it may take longer
- Factors such as county courthouse processes can affect the timing
- Uber does not have the ability to speed up the process.
- Once you get your completed report from Checkr, HireRight, or Samba Safety, Uber might need extra time for review
Requirements for your background check
- Your consent, which also allows Uber to run additional checks if needed during your time with us
- A valid social security number
- A valid US driver’s license
Understanding your background check
- The background screening may cover your entire history as an adult, starting at age 18
- You must complete a new background check at least once a year
- Some cities may require more frequent checks
- You’ll be part of a program that alerts Uber to new offenses in your criminal history
Screenings are an important part of Uber’s commitment to help keep the platform safe.
