Do I have to pick up the car or is it dropped off to me?

It depends on which service you select with your reservation. If you opted to pick up the vehicle at the rental counter, you’ll need to pick up and return the vehicle on your own. If you reserve the vehicle delivery service available in select markets, the vehicle will be delivered to and collected from a location that you specify in your reservation.

What documents do I need to rent a car?

To rent a car, you typically need the following documents:

  • A valid driver’s license issued in your name
  • A credit card in your name for payment and the security deposit

In some cases, you may need to provide additional documentation such as proof of address. We recommend checking with your rental supplier directly for any additional documents you may need.

What information do I need to provide to rent a car?

To complete your reservation, you must provide the renter’s full name. The name should be between 2-15 characters, and may include Latin and English characters, hyphens, apostrophes, and spaces. Please ensure the name exactly matches the one on your driver’s license and payment method.

What should I bring when picking up the car?

When picking up your rental, bring:

  • Your driver’s license
  • A credit card in your name
  • A photo ID (if required)

In some cases, you may need to provide additional documentation such as proof of address. We recommend checking with your rental supplier directly for any additional documents you may need.

If you are adding additional drivers, they must also be present with their own required documents.

Why do I need to provide a security deposit when renting a car?

A security deposit is a standard practice to cover potential costs for damages, fuel discrepancies, or fines incurred during the rental period. The amount typically ranges from $500 to $1,000 USD, depending on the rental company and vehicle type. The deposit is fully refundable, provided there are no issues at the end of the rental term. Be sure to check the rental terms regarding acceptable forms of payment.

I lost something in the car I rented. What should I do?

To retrieve a missing item, you’ll need to contact the supplier directly and they can assist you with locating your lost items.

What is the minimum age to rent a car?

The minimum age to rent a car generally ranges from 21 to 25, depending on the rental company, location, and service you’re using. If you’re using vehicle delivery through Uber, the minimum age requirement is 25. We recommend checking the specific age requirements for the supplier you’ve selected in the app when making the booking.

Can I add an additional driver to the rental agreement?

Yes, additional drivers can be added to your rental agreement at the rental counter, usually with an extra fee. Where there’s an additional driver, all drivers must meet the rental company’s age and licensing criteria. It’s important to inform the rental company of additional drivers when picking up the vehicle. Please remember that additional drivers will need to be physically present with their own documents in order to add them. If you need to add an additional driver for your reservation and you’re using our vehicle delivery service, you will need to visit the Avis location in person with the additional driver to add them.

Can I pick up the rental car at one location and return it to another?

Yes! One-way rentals are available at many locations, allowing you to pick up the vehicle at one location and return it to another within the same rental company’s network. Additional fees may apply, and availability varies depending on the locations.

For vehicle delivery, you can have different delivery and collection locations as long as both addresses are inside the vehicle delivery service area.

How do I return the rental car?

If you picked up the vehicle at the rental counter yourself, you’ll need to bring it back to the designated location at the scheduled time. If you used our vehicle delivery service, you’ll need to meet the driver at the location you designated for collection of the car.

In either instance, ensure that the fuel tank is filled to the agreed-upon level, remove all personal belongings, and return the car keys and any provided equipment.

What happens if I need to modify my credit card after making a reservation?

If you’re picking the vehicle up yourself, you can modify your credit card information by contacting the supplier directly. You can find the supplier contact information in the FAQs on your reservation page.

If you’re using our vehicle delivery service, Avis will be best suited to assist you. Please call Avis at 800-722-5909, indicate that you wish to replace the payment method on your Avis Preferred account and provide them with your Vehicle Delivery Reservation number.

Is there a mileage limit on rental cars?

Most rental agreements offer unlimited mileage, allowing you to drive without incurring extra charges. However, it’s important to confirm this with your specific rental agreement as some reservations may have mileage limits. You can check for the mileage limit under the Car Details page before completing your booking. There may also be limits on cross-state/cross-country usage, and you may need to confirm with your supplier what they permit.

What should I do if I have an issue with my rental car?

If you encounter any issues with your rental vehicle (such as mechanical problems or cleanliness concerns), please contact the rental company’s customer support team immediately. The helpline number is provided in your rental contract, and we are here to assist you as well.

What is the process for extending my rental period?

To extend your rental, contact the rental company’s customer support or visit a local branch before your original return time. Extensions are subject to availability and will incur additional charges for the extra days. Please note that if you’re using our vehicle delivery service, the change will need to be made more than 2.5 hours in advance to ensure that a driver is able to pick up and return the vehicle on your behalf.

Can I request specific features/add-ons or vehicle models?

If you’re picking up the vehicle at the rental counter, you can request specific features & add-ons like child seats or a particular car model at the time of booking. It’s recommended to make these requests in advance to ensure availability. Additional charges may apply for premium models or extra features, such as GPS.

If you are using our vehicle delivery service, these features are not available at this time.

What should I do if my document and/or selfie was rejected for a car rental?

If your document or selfie is rejected during the verification process, ensure the following requirements are met:

For documents (driver’s license)

  • Must be a government-issued driver’s license (US licenses are accepted; state IDs, passports, and foreign IDs are not)
  • Ensure the photo is well-lit, clear, and not blurry
  • The license must show your full name, date of birth, ID number, and expiration date
  • No alterations, photos of photos, or photoshopped images

For selfies

  • Take the selfie with no hats or sunglasses (eyeglasses and religious garments are allowed)
  • The photo should show your full face and the top of your shoulders
  • Ensure good lighting, a clear image, and no blurriness
  • Only one person should appear in the photo, and it must be centered, directly facing the camera
  • No filters, photos of photos, or photoshopped images
