Uber Heath’s Trip Account Linking provides Health riders who have a personal Uber account the option to connect their Uber Health trips to their Uber app. When a ride is requested by an Uber Health organization, a linked Health rider will still receive SMS notifications. However, they will also be able to view their trip in the Uber app, enabling access to additional Uber app support, safety, and communication features.
Linking will reduce the administration burden of your organization and users will benefit from an improved rider experience; see details below:
Yes, after consenting to link to the Uber app, a rider will still receive an SMS stating that your organization requested a ride for them. The SMS will include a link that brings the rider into the Uber app, and the rider’s location will be shared with the driver to help the driver find the rider.
You don’t need to do anything to enable this functionality. As part of the existing Uber Health SMS communication, riders with an Uber account will be provided the option to consent to the HIPAA authorization in order to link their Health trips to their Uber app starting this summer. Once they link their first trip, their future trips will automatically connect.
If you do not want this to be enabled for your organization, please contact support.
The Uber Health ride experience will remain the same as it is today. Riders will not be prompted to create an Uber account or download the app. Riders will continue to receive SMS notifications with trip details.
A HIPAA Authorization allows Uber Health to disclose PHI to Uber so that a rider can view and manage their Health trips in their personal Uber account. If a rider consents to the HIPAA Authorization, Uber’s use and disclosure of this data is governed by Uber’s Privacy Notice as well as all applicable laws governing personal identifiable information and not HIPAA.
The HIPAA authorization can be revoked by the user at any time by following these steps:
All guest riders must have a personal Uber account and a smartphone in order to leverage Uber Health Trip Account Linking.
The HIPAA Authorization only impacts a rider’s ability to use optional features within the Uber app. It does not impact your organization’s ability to request rides using Uber Health products. Riders who do not agree to HIPAA Authorization can still take Uber Health rides requested by your organization.
Linked riders will not have the ability to change their destination or add a stop during a trip booked by your organization. Additionally, they will not be able to tip drivers in the Uber app.
No, Uber Health Trip Account Linking will not allow linked riders access to your Uber Health account or payment methods in any way.
Please note that riders must have the following minimum software versions downloaded on their mobile device to use Uber Health Trip Account Linking:
