Some riders have the option to pay for a trip in cash. For cash-paid trips, you are responsible for collecting the fare at the end of the trip and providing the change.
Your app will confirm that a fare will be paid by the rider in cash by displaying "Collect cash" when you arrive at your rider's destination and end the trip. Please note that there is no indication of whether the trip will be paid for in cash before you choose to accept the trip request.
It's considered good practice to ask the rider if they will pay trip fare in Cash or not.
HOW PAYMENTS WORK
You will generally keep all the cash you collect from riders for cash trips. Uber deducts the cash amount you collected from riders from your overall earnings (which includes any monetary incentives). Any tolls you've been charged along the rider's route will be added to the total your app confirms at the end of the trip.
Any incentives will be paid digitally at the end of the week as usual.
Reasons why the cash collected from the rider may differ from the rider fare are:
1. Rider promotions/discounts. Riders may be offered a discount or a promotional offer, which means the amount they pay you in cash is lower than the fare you accepted.
2. Rider overpayments. Riders may include outstanding payments they owe to Uber from previous trips in their cash payment to you. Which means that you will end up receiving a cash payment amount that is higher than the fare.
If any tolls are paid during a trip that is paid for in cash, these tolls are charged to the rider and included in the total fare shown by your app.
WHEN RIDERS CANCEL
If a trip is cancelled by a rider and a cancellation fee is applicable, the rider's Uber account is charged. As a driver, you are paid cancellation fees as part of your earnings payment. This will be reflected in your weekly statement.
WHAT IF RIDERS TRY TO PAY CASH ON NON-CASH TRIPS?
You are not obligated to accept cash payments on non-cash trips. It is good practice to politely explain to the rider that Uber does not accept cash on non-cash trips.
When riders request a non-cash trip, the fare will be automatically charged to their preferred payment method linked to their account.
CASH PAYMENT ISSUES
Please let us know if you experience any issues with a passenger paying the fare in cash. Select "Review Fare & Trip" from the app menu, select the trip, and then tap "Help" to begin.
