Using Planner to schedule shifts in Netherlands - Frequently Asked Questions

Planner will first launch in selected cities in April 2025, with more cities coming soon. You’ll receive advance communications when Planner becomes available in your city. Read more here.

What is Planner and why do I have to schedule shifts to go online?

We’re introducing Planner, a new tool for easily scheduling shifts in the Uber Driver app instead of using the Staffing Agency app. Planner makes scheduling more convenient and flexible by allowing you to manage shifts and go online - all from the Uber Driver app.

  • After this launch, you’ll no longer be able to schedule shifts in your Staffing Agency app.
  • Instead, you’ll need to use Planner within the Uber Driver app to schedule new shifts for the following week.

Planner helps you schedule shifts to go online during a specific week. Shifts will be first come, first served.

Scheduled shifts are the times that you are guaranteed to go online. You will need to be within your delivery zone at the scheduled start time to go online and start your shift.

Where can I find Planner?

To access Planner, go to Menu (found in the top left corner) in the Uber Driver app.

How do I schedule shifts to deliver?

You can schedule shifts anytime by tapping Planner, which can be accessed from the main menu within the Uber Driver app.

Every Friday morning at 10:00am, new shifts for the following week (Monday - Sunday) will be released.

You will need to go into the app and schedule shifts by selecting your preferred zones and available time slots within each zone.

  1. Open the Uber Driver app and tap the menu to access Planner.
  2. Select the date and delivery zone where you want to start your shift. Zones are listed across the top — scroll right to view all those available in your area.
  3. Tap to reserve a shift, and tap again to remove it if needed. Select “Done” to confirm your selections.
  4. You can select multiple time slots on a particular day and different zones over different days, as long as you don’t exceed a total of 12 hours per day and 48 hours per week.

Need to know before scheduling a shift:

  • Shifts will vary in length, usually between 3 and 5 hours long.
  • Shifts are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.
  • You can schedule a maximum of 12 hours per day and 48 hours per week. (Couriers under 18 years of age have different hourly limits. Please see the question ‘Are there any exemptions?’ below. )
  • Shifts that are available in the Planner can be scheduled up to 10 days in advance.
  • You can cancel up to 1 hour in advance if you can’t make it your shift for some reason.
  • If you’re late, you can still go online.
  • Please be on time as this may affect your attendance record.

If you would like to reserve one or more time slots at once:

  • Select your preferred zone in Planner to see available times.
  • Tap to reserve a time in the zone. You can reserve multiple shifts across different zones.
  • Multiple shifts on the same day must be separated by at least 1 hour offline.

Scheduling shifts lets you choose where and when you will go online. You may choose any available shifts in zones visible to you in Planner.

Can I change or cancel my scheduled shifts after scheduling shifts in Planner?

You can cancel your shift up to one hour before your shift starts.

You can do this with reservation times after you’ve scheduled your shifts in Planner by: Selecting the reservation slot(s) and tapping the preferred shift.

You are able to book shifts at any time up before your shift starts. You won’t be able to change past slots, shifts that have already started, or shifts that are less than an hour from starting.

You can cancel up to 1 hour before the shift starts if you can’t make it to your shift for some reason. If you’re late, you can still go online, but it will be recorded as a late show on your attendance record.

Where are the zones?

There are several zones across the Netherlands, but you will only see the ones most relevant to you when you schedule shifts in Planner.

In some cities, there is only one zone available, so you can only go online within that zone. In this case, all available shifts showing in Planner will be for that zone.

If you plan to be in a different city, please contact our support so we can activate those zones for you.

How to go online during your shift?

  • You must be within your reserved zone at the scheduled time to go online and start your shift. The app will not allow you to go online unless you are physically within this zone. View zone information here.
  • Once online, deliveries may take you to other zones. Make sure you head back to your reserved zone once they are completed.
  • If you receive another delivery while heading back to your reserved zone, you should complete it as normal. Once completed, head back to your reserved zone.
  • Multiple zones are visible within the Planner. Please make sure to select the one where you want to begin your shift and one you are comfortable being around.
  • Do not go offline during your shift. If you go offline, you will need to return to your reserved zone to go back online.

Can I accept deliveries outside of my starting zone?

Yes! Your reserved zone where you need to start your shift. Once online, deliveries may take you to other zones, and you should complete trips as usual. If deliveries take you to other zones, make sure to come back to your reserved delivery zone once they are completed. If you receive another delivery while heading back to your reserved zone, you should complete it as normal before heading back to your reserved zone.

Can I go offline during my shift?

If you go offline during a shift, you will not be able to go back online unless you return to your reserved delivery zone. You should not go offline during your shift, as it could affect your attendance metrics for that day. For more information, reach out to your staffing agency.

Can I take breaks?

Multiple shifts on the same day must be separated by at least 1 hour offline. You can only book a maximum of 12 hours per day and 48 hours per week.

Why can’t I schedule shifts to go online in Planner?

Shifts are first come first served, and can fill up fast. If you see a shift that is unavailable, this means it has already been fully booked by other couriers. Shifts for the following week (Monday - Sunday) open up on Planner every Friday morning at 10:00am.

If there are no shifts available at your preferred time, you may need to check nearby zones and alternative times to schedule an available shift. When will I have access to go online or schedule more shifts? Every Friday morning at 10:00am, new shifts for the following week (Monday - Sunday) will be released.

To ensure you can go online, please remember to reserve time in advance.

Can I go online outside my scheduled shift?

No, you can go only online during your scheduled shift. However, you can schedule a shift anytime in advance if they are available.

What if I don’t want to sign up for scheduled shifts?

If your contract includes a fixed number of working hours, you’re required to meet that minimum. Can I still keep delivering even after my scheduled shift ends? Once your shift ends you will be taken offline. The app will enable you to schedule more time (if slots are available and within working time limits).

What happens if I’m making a delivery when my schedule shifts ends?

This may happen occasionally. You should complete the delivery - you will not be forced offline and will receive compensation for the delivery time. For more information on compensation, please reach out to your staffing agency.

The app tells me I can’t go online. What can I do to be able to go online? Do I have any alternatives?

You need to reserve a shift time in Planner in order to be able to go online. Please remember that you can reserve any available time slot in advance, and that shifts are first come, first served.

You must be inside your reserved zone at the start of your shift in order to go online.

Are there any exemptions?

This update only applies to couriers who are 18 years or older and working with the staffing agencies Randstad or Adecco. If this does not apply to you, please continue scheduling shifts through your staffing agency and delivering with the Uber Driver app as usual.

How will I be informed about the changes when they come to my city?

You’ll be notified ahead of time when your city will be made available on Planner. You can also read more here.
