Claiming and redeeming vouchers from businesses

What is a voucher?

A voucher is like a coupon that can be used to pay for Uber rides or Uber Eats orders. Unlike Uber Cash or credits, vouchers have specific conditions. Keep in mind:

  • Vouchers must be linked to your personal Uber account and cannot be transferred
  • They have a set value and can only be used for their intended purpose
  • Usage may be limited by location, dates, or times
  • Some vouchers cover tips, while others do not
  • The unused portion of one-time use vouchers won’t be saved to your account for later use
  • Only one voucher can be applied per transaction, even if you have multiple available

Always review your voucher’s conditions upon claiming it to maximize benefits.

Who can send a voucher?

Companies send vouchers to employees or customers for various reasons, including:

  • Covering employee rides or meals for an event
  • Offering promotions to customers
  • Providing rewards or recognition
  • Arranging rides for clients (e.g., while their vehicle is being serviced) If you’re an admin or coordinator using Uber for Business, visit the Uber for Business Help Center for voucher management help.

How to claim a voucher

To use a voucher, you must claim it first:

  1. Auto-claim: Some vouchers are automatically added to your Wallet. Check the below for instructions on viewing your Wallet.
  2. Manual claim: If the voucher isn’t added automatically, you can claim it by selecting Accept voucher in the app.

What if my order exceeds the voucher value?

  • Any amount over the voucher value will be charged to your payment method on file.
  • Tips or gratuities not covered by the voucher will also be charged to your payment method
  • If your order doesn’t qualify for the voucher, the full cost will be charged to your payment method.

To check voucher conditions, see the Where to find claimed vouchers section above.

Troubleshooting voucher issues

Why do I need to set up an account and add a payment method if my company sent the voucher?

Even if your company covers the full cost, an Uber account with a valid payment method is required to:

  • Verify your account
  • Help prevent fraud
  • Charge any costs exceeding the voucher amount

Why do I see a pending charge on my payment method after using a voucher?

  • Temporary authorization holds: Pending charges may appear if changes were made to your order after confirmation. If the voucher was applied, these typically disappear within 3–5 business days, depending on your bank.
  • Voucher not applied: If your order didn’t meet voucher conditions, your payment method may have been charged instead.
  • Voucher requirements met, but not applied: Contact Support for a refund and retroactive voucher application.

If I cancel an order, will the voucher return to my account?

Yes. If the order is canceled and the voucher is still valid, it will return to your account after the refund is processed.
