Uber screening process

To drive or deliver with Uber, you need to pass a background check. This applies everywhere except New York City, where you’ll get a notice of conditional engagement first. No credit check is involved.

Duration for background check

• Expect up to 7 business days for completion, though sometimes it may take longer
• Factors such as county courthouse processes can affect the timing
• Uber does not have the ability to speed up the process.
• Once you get your completed report from Checkr, HireRight, or Samba Safety, Uber might need extra time for review

Requirements for your background check

• Your consent, which also allows Uber to run additional checks if needed during your time with us
• A valid social security number
• A valid US driver’s license

This list is not exhaustive, please note that Uber may require additional documentation depending on the city you want to drive.

Understanding your background check

• The screening process will include a criminal background check and a motor vehicle record check, and you’ll need to meet any requirements set by your state and local regulations.
• You must complete a new background check at least once a year
• Some cities may require more frequent checks
• You’ll be part of a program that alerts Uber to new offenses in your criminal history
