Uber for Teens FAQs

What is Uber for Teens?

Uber for Teens is a new service that allows parents to invite teens (ages 13 - 17) to join their family profile and request their own rides and order their own meals, all under parental supervision.

We are committed to helping keep your teens safe, that’s why we added additional safety features such as; PIN verification, RideCheck, and Live trip tracking on all teen trips. You can learn more about our other teen safety features here.

Where is Uber for Teens Available?

Uber for Teens is currently available in select cities. The full list of those cities can be found here. If you are not currently in one of the cities listed, you will not be able to create a Teen account.

Please also note that if Uber for Teens is not available in your area riders must be 18 or older to ride with Uber.

How do I Set Up/Sign Up for an Uber for Teens Account?

In order for a teen account to be set up, a Family Profile will need to be created first. You can do this by following the Set up a profile link on this page or by following the instructions below.

Once your Family Profile is set up, you can use these steps to start creating the teen account:

  1. Select Account.
  2. Select Family and teens (a Family Profile can also be created at this point if you don’t have one already).
  3. Select Add new member.
  4. Select Teen.
  5. Select Contact and choose their name from your contacts (NOTE: They must be at least 13 years old).
  6. Your teen will receive an invite through SMS and will need to complete a mandatory safety onboarding. Once they’re done, they’ll be ready for their first ride.
  7. Make sure your payment information is up to date before your teen requests their first ride.

If you have issues creating a teen account, feel free to reach out to Support here.

What Safety Features are Enabled for Uber for Teens?

We know how important safety is for your teens, that’s why we built the following safety features for teen trips:

  • Pin Verification - Drivers can’t start a trip without a PIN. This code will help make sure your teens get into the right car with the right driver.
  • Live trip tracking - Parents or guardians can follow their teens’ ride to make sure they get where they need to go and will receive notifications when they request a ride, while they’re on-trip, and when they arrive.
  • Unexpected event alerts - Sensors and GPS data is used to detect if a ride goes off course, stops unexpectedly, or ends early. We’ll message you to make sure everything’s OK.
  • Audio Recording - If your teen chooses to opt in to the Audio Recording feature, each of their trips will be automatically recorded (unless they later opt out by removing microphone permission for the app).
  • On-trip safety features, such as being able to call 911, contact Support, or report an issue through the app.

How do I track my teen trip Live?

You can access live teen trips in the “Activity” Hub located at the bottom of your Uber app. Once you’re in the “Activity” Hub, your teen trip will be located at the top most banner. You will also be able to access your live teen trip as often as needed during your teen’s trip.

How to Contact Support

Teens can contact Support directly through their app by accessing their trip in the Activity Hub, located at the bottom of the Uber app’s home screen.

Guardians can also contact Support by accessing their teen trip in the Activity Hub by selecting the filter button next to Past to switch and view all trips taken by their Family Profile members.
