What can I do to protect my account?

Turn on 2-step verification

When 2-step verification is enabled, you will be challenged with two security challenges each time you sign in to your Uber account.

There are two ways to get verification codes:

  1. Through text messages from Uber.
  2. Download a security app like Duo, Authy or Google Authenticator to generate the codes.

Even if you don’t turn on 2-step verification, Uber may sometimes require this extra step to better protect your account. For example, if you change certain details on your account, Uber will ask for additional information to verify it’s you making the change.

Watch out for phishing scams

Phishing is an attempt to trick you into giving up your Uber account information (email, phone number or password). Phishing scams often use unsolicited emails or text messages that contain a link or attachment that takes you to a fake login page. Uber employees will never contact you via email or phone requesting your account information, including your password or financial information. If you receive a message claiming to be from Uber and asking you to provide personal information or go to a website that isn’t from https://www.uber.com, don’t click the link and don’t respond with any information. Please report the message to Uber immediately so our experts can investigate.

Use strong and unique passwords

The most important thing you can do to protect your Uber account is to use a unique password that you don’t use for any other service. Make sure your password contains at least 10 characters, including lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and at least one symbol.

You might also consider using a password manager, which can easily create, store and update strong and unique passwords for each of your online accounts.
