Keeping your Uber account safe

What is phishing?

Phishing is an attempt to trick you into giving away your account information (email, phone number, and/or password). A successful phishing attempt can result in identity theft and financial loss.

Phishing can occur as an unsolicited call, where the call asks for your account information. It can also occur via text message or email, and may include an attachment or link that leads to a fake login page.

Common phishing scams

  • Fake “Uber support” calling or texting you to ask for your password and account information
  • Offering Uber credits in exchange for personal information
  • Unsolicited calls asking for account information or texts and email links leading to fake login pages
  • Websites selling discounted products that ask for your Uber account login
  • Emails or calls asking you to add a gas gift card to your account so that they can cash out your earnings to fake debit cards

How to help keep your account secure

You can help to keep your Uber account safe from phishing by not sharing your password with anyone for any reason. We will never ask for your password, SMS code, banking information, or debit/credit card information over the phone or through email.

Phishing websites are designed to mimic Uber’s legitimate websites and may contain fake login portals that look like Uber’s. For that reason, making sure the URL in your browser’s address bar shows https://uber.com or https://auth.uber.com/ before entering your Uber password on any website is best practice.

3 ways to help protect your account

  • Never share passwords, codes received, or your social security number over email or on phone calls received.
  • Avoid fake Uber websites. Real Uber websites will always have “uber.com” in the URL.
  • Avoid letting riders use or access your device when you are on a trip.
