How to use Uber's Auto Tip Submission

The Auto Tip Submission feature lets you set a default tip amount, reducing effort after each trip.

Set your auto tip

To set your preferred tip so that it will automatically apply to future trips:

  1. Go to Account Settings, then Ride preferences
  2. Tap Tip automatically
  3. Toggle on the Automatic tipping option
  4. Choose a default percentage (for example, 15%, 20%, 25%) or select the custom option (pencil icon) to set a specific percentage.

Note: Due to a recent update, you can no longer set a fixed amount for auto-tipping. Please use a percentage instead.

How it works

Once enabled, Auto Tip Submission will apply to all future trips:

  • Your selected tip is automatically applied when the trip ends.
  • You can edit your tip up or down for up to 1 hour after the trip. You'll receive a post-trip notification confirming your default tip was applied.

Important info

  • Tip limit: The maximum tip allowed is double the trip payment (i.e. a 100% tip).
  • Flexibility: Change your auto-tip anytime in Account Settings or opt out entirely.
  • Display: If the % you want to auto-tip doesn't exactly match a standard preset, a preset option might not be visible on the on-trip screen. You can clear the displayed tip and enter a custom value manually.

Troubleshooting

  • Error message: If you try to edit a tip close to the 1-hour mark post-trip, you might see an error message.
