Food Licensing Requirements

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

As outlined in the Uber Eats agreement, Stores are expected to meet all relevant licensing requirements and to follow regulations including food safety regulations, and industry best practices. Stores must maintain valid store licenses and/or permits.

In order to operate on Uber Eats, we will need to make sure that your store has the necessary licenses and/or permits to operate in your area. We know that requirements may vary across cities and counties and we want to make the process as simple as possible.

When you sign-up with Uber Eats we attempt to match your business name and address with licensing information available on government databases. In the event that we cannot find a sufficient match we may reach out for additional information including the store license itself. Please review the information below to learn more about the store licenses collected by Uber Eats.

If you are being asked to upload a food license/permit, please go to Store Manager, Documents and upload it in the respective document slot.

ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE BASED ON YOUR TYPE OF STORE OPERATION

When uploading a copy, make sure to take a clear, well-lit, zoomed out photo of your license/permit and confirm that it is legible.

STORES WITH PERMANENT PHYSICAL LOCATION

VIRTUAL KITCHENS

A store license/permit should be issued by a health department or relevant government agency and authorize your food service establishment to handle and serve food to the general public. Please make sure that the address listed on the license/permit matches the address used for doing deliveries on Uber Eats.

FOOD TRUCKS OR SIMILAR MOBILE ESTABLISHMENTS

  1. A store license/permit should be issued by a health department or relevant government agency and authorize your food service establishment to handle and serve food to the general public.
  2. Given the nature of food trucks, please make sure that legal entity and/or trading name on the provided license copies also matches the store name which has been used for doing deliveries on Uber Eats.

WHAT ARE SOME REASONS WHY YOUR STORE LICENSE MIGHT BE REJECTED?

  1. Copies of store licenses/permits which are blurry or cropped, to the point that information is missing or illegible will be rejected
  2. Incorrect documents will also be rejected. Food handler certifications, for example, confirm the completion of a food safety course but do not independently authorize a store to operate in most jurisdictions. Similarly, tax documents or occupancy permits may allow you to operate a business but do not necessarily authorize the sale of food to the general public.
