Fix road information on Uber Maps

Road closures

Accurate road information is essential for drivers to complete trips efficiently and avoid unnecessary detours. Whether a road is permanently closed, temporarily inaccessible, requires special access, or not drivable, reporting these issues will help ensure that our maps reflect the most current road conditions.

How to report road closures

  1. Go to the Map Problem Reporting Tool.
  2. Use the tool to mark the location or enter the address.
  3. Select the appropriate issue type (e.g., road closed permanently, temporary closure, requires special access).
  4. Add detailed notes, including the cause of the closure or restriction.
  5. Attach photos of the road, signage, or gate (optional but helpful).
  6. Submit your report.

Road closed permanently

If a road is permanently closed, but still appears open, on the map, it can lead to navigation errors and wasted time.

Common reasons include:

  • Re-zoning
  • Demolition
  • Conversion to pedestrian-only areas

What to include when reporting:

  • Name and location of the road.
  • Reason for the permanent closure (e.g., official signage, visible changes like road removal).
  • Photos showing the closure or confirming the road no longer exists. For example, a street that was permanently converted to a walking path or green space is still showing as drivable on the map.

Road closed temporarily

Temporary road closures, such as those caused by construction, parades, or local event, can confuse drivers if they’re not reflected on the map. Reporting these closures ensures drivers are routed efficiently.

What to include when reporting:

  • Name and location of the road.
  • Reason for the closure (e.g., construction, community event).
  • Estimated duration of the closure (if known).
  • Photos showing signs, barriers, or other evidence of the temporary closure. For example, a major street is closed for a city marathon, but the map is continuing to route drivers through it.

Road requires special access

Some roads may require special access that Uber Maps does not currently reflect. These can include gated communities, roads with attendants, or areas requiring entry codes.

What to include when reporting:

  • Name and location of the road.
  • Type of access required (e.g., code, gate attendant, restricted hours).
  • Photos of the access point, signage, or instructions.
  • Additional details such as entry procedures (if available). For example, a delivery address requires an entry code for a gated road, but this restriction is not showing on the map.

Unable to Drive on Road

Some roads may appear accessible on the map, but are not drivable for reasons such as being restricted to pedestrians, blocked by barriers, or unsafe for vehicles. These issues can cause significant delays and confusion.

What to include when reporting:

  • Name and location of the road.
  • Details about why the road is undrivable (e.g., pedestrian-only, blocked by barriers).
  • Photos showing the road and the restriction (e.g., “No vehicles allowed” signs). For example, a road leading to a delivery location is marked as open, but has a locked gate preventing access.

Navigation issues

Clear and accurate navigation is essential for drivers to efficiently complete trips and avoid unnecessary detours. If you encounter issues such as incorrect turn restrictions, incorrectly-marked one-way roads, missing roads, or private roads, you can report them to help improve map accuracy and reliability.

How to report navigation issues:

1: Go to the Map Problem Reporting Tool. 2. Use the tool to mark the location or enter the address. 3. Select the appropriate issue type (e.g., turn restriction, one-way road). 4. Add detailed notes describing the problem. 5. Attach photos of signs, intersections, or road layouts (optional but helpful). 6. Submit your report

Can’t make suggested turn

If the map suggests a turn that isn’t possible, due to a restriction, blocked intersection, or physical barrier, you can report it to prevent future navigation errors.

What to include when reporting:

  • Intersection name or road details.
  • Explanation of why the turn isn’t possible (e.g., no Left turn, physical barrier, etc).
  • Photos showing the restriction or road layout. For example, a left turn is suggested at an intersection where a “no left turn” sign is posted.

Problem with one-way road

If a road is incorrectly marked as one-way or two-way on the map, it can create significant navigation challenges. Reporting these errors will help ensure accurate routing.

What to include when reporting:

  • Name and location of the road.
  • Details about the correct direction of travel.
  • Photos of road signs or layouts that indicate the actual direction. For example, a street is marked as two-way on the map but is actually a one-way road heading east.

Problem with private road

If a private road is shown as publicly accessible, it can lead to routing errors. Private roads often require special permissions, such as gated access.

What to include when reporting:

  • Name and location of the road.
  • Details about the restriction (e.g., gated entry, private access sign).
  • Photos of access points or signs indicating the restriction. For example, a residential road within a gated community is incorrectly marked as accessible on the map.

Road Is missing from the map

If a road is missing entirely from the map, it can make navigation difficult or inaccurate. Reporting these issues will help to ensure that new or overlooked roads are added to the map.

What to include when reporting:

  • Name and location of the missing road.
  • Details about nearby intersections, landmarks, or connecting roads.
  • Photos of the road and its surroundings. For example, a new street in a developing neighborhood doesn’t appear on the map, making it hard to locate delivery addresses.

Road marked as closed

If a road that’s open for use is marked as closed, it can cause unnecessary detours. Reporting these errors helps ensure accurate routing for drivers.

What to include when reporting:

  • Name and location of the road.
  • Details confirming the road is open (e.g., no visible barriers or signs).
  • Photos of the road showing it is accessible. For example, a road previously closed for construction has reopened, but it’s still showing as blocked on our map.

Turn not allowed

If a legal turn is marked as restricted, it can cause inefficiencies and detours for drivers.

What to include when reporting:

  • Intersection details and road names.
  • Explanation of why the turn should be allowed.
  • Photos showing signage or the lack of restrictions. For example, a right turn is marked as prohibited on the map, but there are no signs or restrictions at the intersection.

Other navigation issues

For navigation problems that don’t fit into the above categories, you can still report them to ensure the map is updated accurately.

What to include when reporting:

  • Detailed description of the issue.
  • Specific location details (address, map pin, or intersection).
  • Photos or additional context to explain the problem. For example, a roundabout is missing directional arrows, leading to confusion about which exits are valid.
