Uber Money for Teens FAQ

How does Uber Money work for Uber Teen accounts?

Uber Teen accounts allow users from 13 to 17 years old to use their personal Uber Money wallet to pay for rides through their own app. The teen’s Uber Money wallet will be debited for trips ordered via the Uber Rides app without using their parent/guardian’s payment method. You can get more information on how to create and use Uber Teen accounts here and Uber Money Wallet here.

How can teens create an Uber Money account?

Users with an Uber Teen account already active must follow these steps to create an Uber Money account: 1. Tap on the Account section in the Uber app. 2. In the Account section, tap on Wallet/Payment and find the banner that says “Plan ahead with Uber Money”. 3. Tap Get started. 4. Complete the necessary onboarding steps to create an account.

How much Uber Money can Teens have or spend per month?

Teens can spend a maximum of, top-up or have a balance of up to 150 EUR per month (or any local currency equivalent in EEA where both Uber Money and Uber for teens are live) while they can top-up or have a balance of up to 150 GBP in the United Kingdom. It is not possible to extend this Uber Money monthly limit for teens. Once a teen reaches 18 and their account becomes ‘an adult one’, they may have a higher monthly limit.

Why am I asked to verify my identity?

Teens and parents/guardians might be asked to verify their identity to protect the teen’s Uber Money account which can take up to 48 business hours to complete, which may require parents/guardians to create an Uber Money account in order to go through this verification. During this time, the teen might not be able to redeem gift cards or top up funds to their Uber Money account (where applicable). Bank account information may also be required in case the teen requests a refund of their Uber Money balance which will also require a mandatory identity verification of both the parent/guardian and the teen. If the verification is taking more than 48 business hours, please contact Customer Support via the dedicated Help section of the Uber app.

How can parents/guardians monitor their teen’s Uber Money account?

Parents/guardians can view which payment method was used for each teen’s trip, including the trips paid with Uber Money balance.

How can parents/guardians offboard their teen from having an Uber Money account?

If parents/guardians don’t want their teen to retain an Uber Money account they can remove their teens from their family profiles via the app. Please note that this will also restrict the teen from using the Uber app until they turn 18 years old.

For more information, please visit the Teen Account Terms of Use (Parent or Guardian) and Teen Account Terms of Use (Teen).

What happens to the teen’s Uber Money account once they turn 18 years old?

Once the teen turns 18 their account will become a regular ‘adult’ account, however they will continue to be on the Family profile and their rides can still be followed in the app. The Uber Money account of the former Uber Teen will then work as a normal Uber Money account, you can find more information and resources about Uber Money on this page.

Can teens transfer Uber Money balance to parents/guardians or vice versa?

Uber Money cannot be transferred from one Uber account to another. It is possible however for teens to request a refund of their Uber Money balance back to the original digital payment method used to top-up (if applicable) or via bank transfers in case of redeemed gift cards.
