Impuesto de viajes compartidos de Berkeley

Starting on January 1, 2021, the Berkeley Ridesharing Tax will be charged on most rides originating in Berkeley, California.

WHAT IS THIS TAX AND WHY IS IT BEING CHARGED?

The Berkeley Ridesharing Tax became effective on January 1, 2021 and was implemented in compliance with new regulations in the City of Berkeley. It was approved by the City of Berkeley, passed by voters with Measure GG on November 3, 2020, and is a pass-through tax to be paid in full to the City of Berkeley.

HOW MUCH IS THE BERKELEY RIDESHARING TAX?

The amount of the tax will vary depending on the type of ride you select. ‘Shared Rides’ are taxed $0.25, and ‘Private Rides’ (such as UberX, UberXL, UberASSIST, UberListen, Uber Select, Uber Comfort, Uber Electric, and UberX Diamond) are taxed $0.50. The City of Berkeley may choose to increase these tax amounts in the future.

WHEN DOES THIS TAX APPLY AND HOW CAN I TELL IF IT’S ASSOCIATED WITH MY TRIP?

The Berkeley Ridesharing Tax applies only to pick-ups occurring in Berkeley. Trips involving the UberWAV and UberBlack products, as well as any trips ending outside of California, will not be taxed.
