How do upfront fares work?

To give you more certainty about the price of your ride you will now see a trip fare quoted in your rider app upfront, rather than an estimated range. The upfront fare is estimated based on a variety of factors including historical traffic patterns and distance between the pickup and dropoff points. The upfront fare also takes into account dynamic pricing (known as surge) when demand is high.

At the end of your trip, you will be charged the exact amount shown when you requested the ride. However, if you make a significant change during the trip (such as changing the pickup or drop off location or making multiple stops), or if the trip takes materially longer than estimated due to traffic or other factors, the fare may be adjusted once the trip has been completed. In these circumstances, the rates shown in the Uber rider app (by clicking the (i) next to the upfront fare) will apply.

Shortly after the completion of your ride, you will be able to see the exact amount charged in your rider app, as well as on the receipt sent to the email address associated with your account.
