If you suspect that someone you’re sharing a ride with might be a victim of human trafficking, your awareness can be crucial. PACT has provided some signs of human trafficking; here’s how you can spot these signs and take action:
Signs of human trafficking:
##
- The individual appears disoriented, lost, and/or fearful of their situation
- The individual displays bruises, cuts, burns, or other injuries at various stages of healing
- Signs of a controlling interaction emerge between the passengers
- Pickups and drop-offs occur at locations that seem generally unsafe for children or vulnerable individuals
- The individual uses multiple phones simultaneously or possesses an excessive amount of cash
##
How to report:
##
If you believe a passenger is in immediate danger, call 911.
For non-emergencies, you can anonymously report your concerns to the National Human Trafficking Hotline:
- Call: 1-888-373-7888
- Text: ““HELP”” to 233733
##
Take action:
- Do not confront the individual or trafficker, as this could escalate the situation
- Once you are safe, and without putting yourself at risk, report your suspicions to authorities
