What Automated Tracking Sources Does Uber Freight Use?

You can provide tracking updates through the Uber Freight app, web portal, ELD integration, or third-party data aggregators (P44, FourKites, and MacroPoint).

Uber Freight app

The Uber Freight app is a reliable method of providing real-time status updates. The app allows fleet managers and dispatchers to limit rate visibility to drivers. This allows you the freedom to manage your fleet while being compliant with Uber Freight’s tracking policy.

You can use the app in addition to the web portal, ELD integration, or third-party data aggregators (P44, FourKites, and MacroPoint) to provide a comprehensive visibility to shippers.

How can I provide updates through the Uber Freight app?

  • Keep the app open throughout the lifecycle of the load to provide automatic location updates
  • When prompted, select the in-app confirmations that you have moved to the next stage of the load
  • Submit a live status update through in-app support

What are the app requirements?

  • Download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store, sign in, and set Location Services to Always Allow
  • Keep the app turned on throughout the load so that it can register location updates
  • Provide the following 5 status updates in a timely manner:
  1. Dispatched 3+ hours before pickup
  2. Arrived at pickup
  3. Departed pickup
  4. Arrived at dropoff
  5. Delivered

To use the Uber Freight app for tracking, follow the tips below:

  • Only log in to one device at a time
  • Do not close out or swipe away from the Uber Freight app
  • Dispatch yourself in-app by swiping the “Heading to Pickup” notification that appears 3 hours before the designated pickup time or dispatch yourself through in-app support
  • Re-open the app at critical points in the load (such as dispatch, pickup, dropoff, after a break) and engage with all in-app notifications
  • Charge your phone continuously during the trip (avoid low battery mode)
  • Keep the Uber Freight app open in the foreground with the screen on where possible

  2. Click on the load that you’d like to provide an update for.
  3. Click on the blue button that says Update Status for each of the required statuses listed above. Make sure to include the date and time and choose a reason code.

ELD

Uber Freight offers ELD integration options for KeepTruckin, Samsara, and Transflo/Geotab. You can integrate the ELD in your truck with Uber Freight so the ELD will automatically provide status updates.

How can I integrate my ELD with Uber Freight?

You’ll need to sign an updated carrier agreement, which includes telematics data sharing consent. Please contact uf-automated-tracking@uber.com for more information.

How can I provide updates with an ELD?

  • Verify that you have a compatible ELD installed in the truck hauling your Uber Freight load
  • Provide an accurate truck number for all Uber Freight loads as you head to pick up

Uber Freight offers ELD integration options for Keep Truckin’, Samsara, and Transflo/Geotab. If your ELD provider is among those listed, you can provide automated status updates by connecting with Uber Freight and providing a truck number for each load.

If you don’t have a compatible ELD but are interested in getting one, Uber Freight offers discounts through Keep Truckin and Samsara. Check out this link for more information.

Third-party data aggregators

Uber Freight currently partners with 3 third-party aggregators. You can provide policy compliant tracking updates through P44, FourKites, and MacroPoint If you don’t have a compliant ELD and you’d prefer not to use the Uber Freight web portal or app.

How can I sign up with a third-party aggregator?

Project44

  • Go to this link and select Next
  • When prompted to enter an invitation code, select I do not have an invitation code
  • Enter your email address and click Next to complete the onboarding process

Make sure to provide an accurate truck and trailer number on every load.

FourKites

  1. Send an email to support@fourkites.com
  2. Once you are onboarded with FourKites, email uf-automated-tracking@uber.com to complete the integration

MacroPoint

  1. Send an email to MPActivations@descartes.com
  2. Once you are onboarded with MacroPoint, email uf-automated-tracking@uber.com to complete the integration

Can I use an EDI for tracking?

Uber Freight prefers to use the Uber Freight app, web portal, ELD integration, or third-party data aggregators since they provide the most real-time visibility to shippers. If your carrier has an EDI (TMS) integration with Uber Freight, this can also be considered as a source of automated tracking for larger fleets.

If your carrier is interested in exploring an EDI connection with Uber Freight, please reach out to uf-automated-tracking@uber.com to discuss the feasibility of integration. Integrations typically take about 1-3 weeks and tracking statuses must be maintained in TMS for automatic updates to be successful.
