Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is the new Earnings Guarantee in British Columbia?

A: You are guaranteed to earn at least 120% of the provincial minimum wage (equating to $21.43 per hour as of June 2025) for your active time, plus a per-kilometer amount to cover expenses. The per-kilometer rate is $0.45/km for rideshare and $0.35/km for delivery. If your earnings at the end of a two-week period are less than this guaranteed amount, you will receive a “top-up” payment. For a full breakdown, see our BC Minimum Earnings Guarantee page.

Q: What is “active time”?

A: Active time (or engaged time) is the period from when you accept a ride or delivery request until you complete the drop-off. Time spent online waiting for a request does not count as active time.

Q: Am I covered for injuries on the job?

A: Yes. As of September 3, 2024, all online platform workers are covered by WorkSafeBC for work-related injuries. This includes workers’ compensation and rehabilitation services. Uber pays the premiums, so this benefit is provided at no cost to you. Learn more on our BC Worker Rights & Protections page.

Q: What are my rights if my account is deactivated?

A: For most deactivations, you must be given written notice explaining the reason. In some cases, you may receive compensation instead of notice. This does not apply to deactivations for “just cause.”

Q: What new information will I see before accepting a trip?

A: Before you accept a work assignment, you are now entitled to see the pickup and delivery locations and your estimated earnings for that trip.

Q: How do I see my earnings guarantee calculation?

A: You can view a detailed breakdown of your earnings guarantee, including any top-up payments, directly in the Driver App. We show you how on our BC Minimum Earnings Guarantee page.
