We sometimes ask you to confirm your identity with a real-time selfie before logging in to the app. To help ensure safety for all users, only you are allowed to access your Uber account.
How to take and submit your real-time selfie
- When prompted, use the Uber app to take a fresh selfie
- Make sure to:
- Center your face and neck within the white lines on the screen
- Turn on sufficient lighting if you’re in a dark space
- Keep a calm expression and hold your phone still to prevent a blurry image
- Avoid using a photo of a photo or an image of someone else
Remember to keep your profile photo current. This helps us quickly confirm your identity.

What if my photo isn’t verified?
- If we can’t verify your selfie, a team will promptly review your submission manually
- Providing photos that do not match your profile picture, or using photos of photos, may result in temporary or permanent restriction of account access
How we handle and protect your photos
- When you take a verification selfie in the app, it is securely sent to Uber and our service partner, Microsoft
- Microsoft uses software under our guidance to compare your new selfie with existing profile photos
- Uber retains these photos for as long as your account is active, in line with our Privacy Notice
- Microsoft will not store your photos and deletes all data within 24 hours of processing
