Uber beacon is a digital display unit you place on your dashboard to help riders find you quickly and easily.
After you’ve accepted a ride request, the rider’s app invites them to choose a color. When you’re arriving at the rider’s pickup location, your beacon automatically changes to that color.
The rider’s app displays this color too, helping both of you make a positive match at night or on a crowded street. It’s still good practice to confirm your rider’s name before starting a trip.
If an Uber trade dress is required in your city, beacon is NOT a replacement for a trade dress. If you’re in a market that requires a trade dress, you must display the trade dress at all times in addition to the beacon.
The beacon doesn’t have an on or off switch. It will turn on automatically when plugged in via the USB cord. Your beacon will turn off automatically when unplugged or when your car is turned off.
Please make sure that the beacon is securely mounted on your dashboard and is plugged in using the USB cord. The beacon will only work if your car is turned on. To pair the beacon with your driver app:
If Driver App Version is 4.219 for iPhone or 4.228 for Android or earlier:
To unpair the beacon, follow the same set of steps and select UnPair Beacon as the final step. Please note that this option will only be available if the device is already paired.
To check your beacon’s pairing status, follow the pairing steps above. If you see UnPair Beacon, the beacon is connected. If you see Pair Beacon, the beacon is disconnected and must be paired again.
The rider determines the beacon’s color via the rider app. The color of the beacon will match the color that the rider has chosen on their phone, to allow for easier and more safe pickups at night or on crowded streets.
