ANCAP vehicle safety policy

Uber is committed to the safety of driver-partners, riders, and everyone who shares the road so a new vehicle safety standard is in effect since October 2019.

What is Uber Australia’s new vehicle safety standard?

All vehicles signed up to the Uber Australia rides and taxi (in selected cities) platform (not including Uber Eats) will need to have a 5-star ANCAP safety rating or equivalent for luxury vehicles.

Why are ANCAP safety ratings important?

The ANCAP testing program has helped drive the improvement and adoption of vehicle safety standards in Australia. This resulted in safer vehicles, and fewer lives lost on our roads each year.

ANCAP has long set the Australian standard for vehicle safety and we’re proud to help them continue in sending a powerful message about the importance of vehicle safety technology across Australia.

What if my vehicle hasn’t been tested by ANCAP?

Some vehicles don’t fall within ANCAP’s testing scope. Luxury vehicles that are able to demonstrate excellent safety feature configurations will remain eligible to drive on Uber.

What if I am renting a vehicle through a vehicle solutions provider and it does not meet the standard?

The vehicle solutions provider should provide you with a new vehicle that meets the safety standard.
