British Columbia Driver & Courier Benefits - Overview and FAQ

Under British Columbia’s Bill 48, you are guaranteed to earn a minimum amount for your active time and kilometers on the platform.

How the Guarantee Works

Your minimum earnings guarantee is calculated using two components for trips starting in BC:

1. An Active Time Minimum:

• At least 120% of the provincial minimum wage for every hour of active time. (This is $21.43 per hour as of June 2025).

1. An Expense Compensation:

• $0.45 per kilometer for active rideshare trips.
• $0.35 per kilometer for active delivery trips.

At the end of each two-week pay period, we calculate your total guaranteed amount based on this formula and compare it to your actual earnings. If your earnings are lower, we’ll add the difference to your account as a “top-up” payment.

What is “Active Time”?

Active time is the period from when you accept a trip or delivery request until you complete the final drop-off. This includes the time it takes to travel to the pickup location. Time spent online waiting for a request is not included. For overlapping trips (like shared rides), the active time is only counted once.

Pay Period and Payouts

Your earnings are reviewed over a two-week pay period. If you are eligible for a top-up payment, it will be reflected in your earnings statement on the Thursday after the pay period ends. The first potential top-up payments will be made on September 19, 2024.

What Counts Towards Your Minimum Earnings Guarantee?

When calculating if you have met the minimum guarantee, your actual earnings include all fares, delivery fees, and promotions. The calculation does not include tips, which you receive 100% of on top of your earnings.

Example Calculations

• Example 1: Driver Earns Above the Guarantee A driver has 60.36 active hours and 174 active km in a pay period. Their actual earnings are $1,459.58.
  • Time Guarantee: 60.36 hours x $21.43/hour = $1,293.51
  • Distance Guarantee: 174 km x $0.45/km = $78.30
  • Total Minimum Guarantee: $1,371.82 Since their actual earnings ($1,459.58) are higher than the guarantee, no top-up is needed.
• Example 2: Delivery Person Earns a Top-Up A delivery person has 80.36 active hours and 250 active km. Their actual earnings are $1,659.58.
  • Time Guarantee: 80.36 hours x $21.43/hour = $1,722.11
  • Distance Guarantee: 250 km x $0.35/km = $87.50
  • Total Minimum Guarantee: $1,809.61 Since their earnings are less than the guarantee, they receive a top-up of $150.03 ($1,809.61 - $1,659.58).

How to View Your Earnings Guarantee

You can view a detailed breakdown of your guaranteed minimum earnings and any top-up payments in the Driver App.

1. Open the app and tap on the Earnings tab.
2. Select Benefits.
3. Tap on Guaranteed Earnings.
4. Select the relevant pay period to see the details.
