Registering a substitute

Why do you need to register a substitute?

To ensure the safety and security of the Uber Eats platform and your account, you will need to register your substitute within 48 hours after they have provided delivery services on your behalf.

Your substitute will be asked to go through an Identity and Right to Work check. This is to verify if they have the legal Right to Work in the United Kingdom. While you are able to appoint anyone to be your substitute, you must ensure that they meet the following safety conditions outlined below:

  • They are at least 18 years of age
  • They have the right to work in the UK
  • They do not have any unspent criminal convictions
  • They have not had their Uber account deactivated in the past
  • They have the relevant insurance, where required
  • They know how to perform deliveries safely and in accordance with applicable road safety, food safety and health and safety laws

If your substitute does not pass the Identity and / or the Right to Work check, or your substitute does not provide the required information in time, you may lose access to your account.

What will your substitute need to provide during the registration process?

During the registration process, your substitute will need to provide their:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Date of birth
  • E-mail address
  • Selfie photo
  • Identity document (this can be either a passport (from any country), driving licence (only from EU and UK), or EU citizen/identity card)

It is important that the information provided in this step is accurate, complete, and that your substitute has access to the e-mail address provided as it will be used to facilitate the Identity and Right to Work checks.

What happens during the Identity and Right to Work check?

Once the information has been provided, you will receive an e-mail and message from Uber Eats providing instructions on what to do next.

In the e-mail there will be two links that you will need to pass on to your substitute. This will enable them to undergo the Identity and Right to Work check with our partners, Ubble and Sterling.

  • During the Identity document check, your substitute will be asked to take a video of the identity document that they initially provided to Uber Eats. This is processed by our third party partner, Ubble.
  • During the Right to Work check, your substitute will be asked to provide additional information proving that they have the Right to Work in the UK as a courier. This is processed by our third party partner, Sterling.

This should take no longer than 1-2 weeks depending on how quickly your substitute is able to go through each check. It is important to ensure your substitute engages with the process. Delays in submitting documents or undergoing these checks may result in you not being able to go online.

What happens after the Identity and Right to Work check is completed?

Uber Eats will receive results of the Identity and Right to Work check. If your substitute clears these checks, you will receive a confirmation and no further action is required. They will be able to continue delivering on your account. If your substitute fails either of these checks, you may lose access to your account.
