Review the pickup location address and check the rider’s icon on the map to see where the rider is waiting.
Try to approach the pickup location on the same side of the street as the rider to help keep riders stress-free and avoid the need to cross traffic.
Follow local traffic laws.
Finding your rider
The rider’s app notifies them when you’re about one minute away.
Riders can use the Spotlight feature to help you identify them. If used, you’ll receive a notification in your app with the color to look for. The rider will hold up their phone with a screen illuminated in that color.
If you can’t find each other, use your app to call or message the rider and confirm your location.
Child car seat policy
Riders are expected to bring their own car seat(s) if traveling with children.
If a rider does not have a car seat, you may cancel the trip.
When to start the trip
Wait until the rider is seated in your vehicle before starting the trip.
Uber recommends that riders request a ride when they are ready to be picked up.
If you can’t locate the rider
Wait at the pickup location for at least 5 minutes (2 minutes for UberX Share).
If the rider does not arrive, you may cancel the trip. The rider will be charged a cancellation fee, which is paid to you.
Let the rider know if their trip is being canceled.
Confirming the rider and destination
Ask your rider’s name before they enter your vehicle to ensure you have the correct person.
Confirm the destination and ask if they have a preferred route before starting the trip.
