What is Uber Pet?

Uber Pet allows riders to bring a pet on their ride. Uber Pet trips are offered to UberX drivers who have opted in to receive these types of requests. The Uber Pet option is not offered on other trip types, such as UberXL or Uber Black. If you accept Uber Pet rides, you’re allowing the rider to bring a pet into the vehicle.

Note: Uber Pet trips are for non-service animal pets. In accordance with Uber’s policies, service animals are permitted to accompany riders at all times without extra charge, regardless of whether it is an Uber Pet trip. Federal and local laws may also require service animals to be accommodated without extra charge.

How do Uber Pet rides work?

Uber Pet rides work similarly to UberX rides. The main difference is the presence of an animal. You’ll earn an extra Uber Pet fee of $4 in the US and $5 in Canada for accepting Uber Pet rides. This fee is automatically added to your earnings breakdown. In markets with upfront pricing, this fee will be automatically incorporated in the fare you see on the offer card.

How many pets can a rider bring?

A rider is allowed to bring one pet on an Uber Pet trip.

What kind of pets are riders allowed to bring?

Riders are allowed to bring one animal such as a dog or a cat. Any other type of animal is up to the driver’s discretion.

What if I’m allergic to a pet?

If you’re allergic to certain animals, it’s best to opt out of Uber Pet trips. However, please remember, depending on the local and federal laws in your area, you are required to allow service animals into your vehicle.

What if a pet makes a mess in my vehicle?

We strongly encourage you to bring a towel or seat cover to protect your vehicle when you may be traveling with pets. There is an expected level of wear-and-tear from traveling with pets—including fur being left behind—but carrying a towel or seat cover will help minimize this.

Cleaning fees will be assessed and charged according to the extent of damage. You’ll be reimbursed for incidents requiring professional cleaning / repair upon providing a receipt for service. Drivers are encouraged to contact support for such instances.

You can view our cleaning fee policy or request a cleaning fee here.

Can I refuse a trip based on the pet type?

Laws prohibit drivers using the Uber Driver app from denying service to riders with service animals because of the service animals. If the animal isn’t a service animal, you have the option to cancel any ride you don’t feel comfortable with.

The rider is solely responsible for the animal and its behavior during the entire trip.

If you anticipate not accepting any Uber Pet trips, we suggest opting out of Uber Pet entirely. For steps on how to opt-out, see the question below.
