How to calculate/review effective sales tax rate on the PDR

United States

  • (Tax on Food Sales) / (Food Sales (excluding tax)) = Effective tax rate charged on the order
  • Marketplace Facilitator Tax = Tax amount that Uber Eats is keeping and remitting on your behalf to the respective taxing authorities
  • Tax sent back to you (called “Split Tax” in Marketplace Facilitator situations): To determine the amount of tax - if any - that Uber is returning to you to be remitted, add together the following columns:
  1. Tax on Food Sales
  2. Tax on Adjustments
  3. Tax on Promotion on Food
  4. Marketplace Facilitator Tax

Canada

For Marketplace Facilitator locations:

  • Marketplace Facilitator Tax = Tax amount that Uber Eats is keeping and remitting on your behalf to the respective taxing authorities

  • Do not use the following columns - they are not tied to any money flow from the actual order. Rather, they are a guidance based on the rate amounts for these taxes.

  1. GST / HST on Food Sales
  2. PST on Food Sales
  3. QST on Food Sales
  4. RST on Food Sales

For non-Marketplace Facilitator locations:

  • Only use the Tax on Food Sales column for calculating GST/HST, PST, QST, and RST

FAQ on Sales Tax

How do I check my tax rate?

To determine tax collected, review the PDR for the tax columns.

How can I confirm how much tax has been paid to state and local taxing authorities?

If you are located in a marketplace facilitator state, sum the totals in the Marketplace Facilitator Tax column.

Why is the tax on Food Sales not the same as the Marketplace Facilitator Tax on the Payment Detail Report?

In certain locations, Uber Eats is required to collect and remit some - but not all - taxes on orders placed on the platform.

If Uber Eats is not a marketplace facilitator for a certain tax(es), Uber will collect the tax and pass it back to the merchant to be remitted. In the US, this is sometimes referred to as “Split Tax”.

Why is the Marketplace Facilitator Tax amount a negative amount on my receipt?

Marketplace Facilitator Tax is negative from the merchant payout, but the tax is still paid by the customer. In marketplace facilitator states, Uber keeps the tax collected from customers and remits the tax directly to the taxing authorities.

If no Marketplace Facilitator Tax is being kept from your payout, this means all tax collected is being passed back from Uber to you to be remitted.

How do I get a tax summary?

For a sales tax summary, review your PDR.

Why don’t I see Sales Tax in my Payment Details Report? (Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Washington ONLY)

In these states (usually merchants that sell alcohol), you may not be able to see the Sales Tax in your Payment Details Report. If you’d like to confirm if your sales tax is being calculated correctly, reach out to us at restaurants@uber.com.

Do I need to provide a new TIN if I update my banking information?

When adding your bank account information for the first time, you must update your TIN as well. A pop-up alert may appear directing you to update your TIN before you can add banking information.

NOTE: The TIN also needs to be updated if there has been a change of ownership.
