I have a duplicate charge

Wherever Upfront Fare is available, Uber will ask processors (banks, credit card issuers, PayPal, etc) to authorize & hold the upfront fare amount before the trip begins. It is equivalent to a pending charge that we convert to a full charge after the trip has been completed. If the amount is not available for us to hold, Uber will deny the trip.

FAQ

What happens when a trip is cancelled?

If the user cancels the trip, Uber will void the authorization immediately. It may take longer for PayPal/Credit Card companies to reflect this.

Will there be a limit on how high Uber attempts to authorize?

Uber will authorize the full amount of the estimated/upfront fare when the user requests a trip.

Would Uber authorize someone’s account multiple times if they take multiple trips on the same day?

Yes, an Authorization Hold happens on each new trip request. At the end of the trip the authorization is converted to a charge for the amount of the trip.

If you believe you have duplicate charges, please check that there is no corresponding trip or fare adjustment. Select Your Trips in your app menu to review your trip history or sign in at riders.uber.com. If a trip fare is changed for any reason, you will receive an updated receipt.

Would Uber authorize on Taxi Trip?

Uber will only authorize your non-cash payment (credit and debit cards) method for every trip requested.

Is there an authorization hold for tipping?

Tipping your driver at the end of your trip would also create “authorization holds.”
