The Massachusetts Driver Portable Health Fund is a first-of-its-kind benefit designed to provide a cash stipend to help drivers pay for health insurance.
What is the Portable Health Fund?
Starting April 1, 2025, you can accrue active hours toward a quarterly health care stipend. If you meet the eligibility requirements, a third-party administrator (Stride Health) will pay you a cash stipend to put towards a qualifying health insurance plan.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for a stipend, you must meet requirements for both active hours and health plan enrollment in a given calendar quarter.
- Active Hours: Your active hours on both Uber and Lyft are combined to determine eligibility.
- Full Stipend: Average at least 25 active hours per week during the quarter.
- Partial Stipend: Average between 15 and 25 active hours per week during the quarter.
- Qualifying Health Plan: You must be enrolled in a health insurance plan where you are the subscriber and that is not paid for by an employer (past or present) and is not a Medicare or Medicaid plan. You can find qualifying plans on the Massachusetts Health Connector website.
How to Apply & Timeline
The process is managed quarterly. The first eligibility period is Q2 2025 (April 1 - June 30, 2025).
- Documentation Window: In the month following the end of a quarter (e.g., July 1-31 for Q2), you will submit proof of enrollment in a qualifying plan to the administrator, Stride Health.
- Payment Window: Stipends are paid out in the second half of the following month (e.g., August 15-31 for the Q2 stipend).
2025 Stipend Amounts
- Full Stipend: $1,215 per quarter
- Partial Stipend: $607.50 per quarter
These amounts are subject to change in future years. For any questions about enrollment or your account, please visit Stride Health support.
