Uber for Teens FAQs

What is Uber for Teens?

Uber for teens allow teens between the age of 13 to 17 to take trips on Uber with parental consent. Once parents or legal guardians invite their teens to create an account, the teen will be able to request their own rides.

When teens request a ride, their guardian will be notified every time their teen has requested a ride, and they’ll get real-time alerts plus live trip tracking so they can follow their teen’s ride in the app. We have also built other safety guardrails such as PIN verification, RideCheck+, access to the Uber’s Safety line on-trip so you can drive with confidence.

Am I Eligible for Uber for Teens Requests?

Uber for teens is a new feature that is only available in select cities and rolled out to a subset of drivers. You should see notifications in the Driver app if and when Uber for Teens expands to other cities or is rolled out to a larger audience.

Can I Opt Out of Receiving Uber for Teens Trips?

You can opt in or out of receiving Uber for Teens requests at any time by following these steps:

  1. Select the Preferences icon in the bottom left corner of the Driver app.
  2. Under the “Trip Filters” section, toggle Teen trips on or off depending on whether you’d like to receive trip requests from teenagers.

How can I tell if it’s an Uber for teen trip/request?

If you receive an Uber for teen request, you will be able to identify an Uber for teen trip by looking at your offer card. It will be labeled “UberX • Teen.” If you see this, it means the trip request is from an official teen account holder.

Please keep in mind that there may still be minors who request trips through another rider’s account that has not been set up as an official teen account. In these cases you will still have the option to cancel the trip, which you can do by selecting the unaccompanied minor cancellation reason (and potentially receive a cancellation fee).

How Will Uber for Teen Trips Affect My Driver Rating?

Uber’s rating system is designed to support a quality experience for both drivers and riders. For example, we know that certain issues (such as fare price, app issues, etc.) are not your responsibility, so if one of your riders selects any of those options when rating a trip less than 5 stars the rating will not count towards your overall rating.

As always, you can decline any of the trip requests you receive without affecting your rating. If you accept a trip request and arrive at pickup to find an unaccompanied minor who doesn’t have a teen account, you can cancel the trip and select Unaccompanied minor as the reason. If you cancel a trip, you can let the rider know so that they won’t be left wondering what happened.

Can I contact the Teen’s guardians?

No, you will not be able to contact teen riders’ guardians at this time. However, a parent/guardian may call you during the trip. Your phone number will stay anonymous in the app, so they won’t have your personal contact information.
