Uber Share is a revised and improved version of shared rides. This new feature allows you to carry multiple passengers going in the same direction at attractive prices, giving you more opportunities for rides, especially long rides, at the same profitability as UberX.
How does Uber Share work?
When an UberX Share order is received, you will be notified of the number of passengers to be picked up (limited to two per pickup). When you accept an UberX Share request, the application will ask you to pick up the passenger(s), as with UberX. In order to respect the capacity of your vehicle, you will be asked to confirm on the application the number of passengers actually arriving at each pick-up. Once the journey has started, the application will look for efficient ways to pick up other passengers along the way, depending on the number of places left in your vehicle (maximum 3 passengers).
You will then be informed if a new passenger is proposed: if you accept, your route will be automatically updated with the pick-up location of the next passenger. You can then proceed to the pick-up location of your next passenger. If they do not arrive within 2 minutes, you will be charged a cancellation fee and can continue the journey. Finally, you can finish the journey by dropping off the passenger(s) according to the instructions given on the app.
Where is UberX Share available?
UberX Share is available in Paris and its suburbs.
What is the pricing on UberX Share?
The fare structure will be the same as on UberX. Regarding service fees:
When a passenger makes a trip with Uber Share but we have not found another passenger to share his or her ride, the service fees apply identically to an UberX ride.
When more than one passenger shares a ride on UberX Share, the service fee for the additional ride will adjust to ensure that you earn the same as an UberX ride on both rides combined. In all cases, you will receive the guaranteed net amount displayed in the app before the ride is accepted.
Please also note that the fare will be higher when a passenger brings an extra person.
What is the maximum number of passengers that can get on board?
The maximum number of passengers per vehicle is 3. The passenger can be alone or accompanied to order on the UberX Share option, and can be linked with up to two other passengers to share the ride.
Will I be able to see that it is an UberX Share ride before I accept it?
Yes, this will be visible in the information before you accept the ride. For the main ride, it will be the same display as for regular rides. In case of a second trip, the additional net price will be displayed.
Can I activate or deactivate UberX Share rides?
At the moment, it is not possible to deactivate UberX Share in the driving preferences, except for drivers who have the Berline or Van option, as they already have the option to deactivate Uber X.
You can, however, decline UberX Share rides if you wish, without any consequences for your acceptance rate.
What is the cancellation policy with UberX Share?
The passenger has 1 minute to cancel without any cancellation fee after the ride has been accepted by a driver. If the passenger cancels the ride within this time, the cancellation fee will not apply.
However, the driver must always wait 2 minutes, as close to the pick-up point as possible, before cancelling the ride in order to receive the €3 cancellation fee that would normally apply.
