What is NuPay?

NuPay is a new payment method available to users who have a Nubank account.

Check out the frequently asked questions below to clear up doubts about this payment method.

How does it works?

After going through an authorization step in the Nubank app, NuPay is saved as a pre-approved payment method in the Uber app.

This allows future Uber charges to be made automatically from your traditional credit limit or NuPay Additional Limit (in the credit function), or directly from your account (in the debit function), when it is cleared for your account.

How to register?

It’s possible to register NuPay with Uber in two different ways:

Go to Account > Wallet > Add a payment method. There you can find the “Nubank” option. Follow the onscreen steps to authorize and register NuPay in your Uber app.

When requesting a trip, you can also access the “Add payment method” menu. From there, the process to register NuPay is the same as described above.

What is the difference between using NuPay and using a credit card?

The main difference is that, with it, you have access to the Additional credit limit. Also, you no longer have to worry about:

  • The expiration date of your card.
  • Switch cards if you cancel or lose yours.

You also don’t have to worry about the common types of safety incidents that can occur with credit card transactions. Transactions made with NuPay are approved and authorized directly by Nubank.

I don’t have a Nubank account, can I use NuPay to pay for my Uber trips?

NuPay is only available to Nubank customers. It is not possible to use other banks to pay with NuPay.

Can I use NuPay for credit and debit?

Yes. But it is necessary to change the function in the app. For that:

  1. Access your Uber app and delete the “Nubank” payment method.
  2. Close your app and reopen it.
  3. Click on the ACCOUNT tab and then go to WALLET.
  4. In the PAYMENT METHODS section, click ADD A PAYMENT METHOD.
  5. Then select NUBANK and add the Nubank account to your wallet again.
  6. In the Nubank app, select the “credit” mode (and vice versa).

How can I cancel the automatic authorization of payments with NuPay?

If you no longer want to keep NuPay as a payment method, you can delete it through the Uber app. Follow the following steps:

  1. Enter the ACCOUNT section.
  2. Click on WALLET.
  3. Find “Nubank” in the payment methods list and select it.
  4. Click REMOVE PAYMENT METHOD.

If you want to cancel the pre-approved payment authorization with Nubank (because you lost access to your Uber account, changed your cell phone or no longer want to use this function), you can use chat support (via the Nubank app) for the responsible team to cancel your automatic registration of payment through NuPay.

Can I use NuPay with my business account?

NuPay is only available for payments made through an individual account at Nubank.

How do I check if I’ve spent my normal limit or the Additional Limit?

In the Nubank app, access the “Limit Adjustment” section (under “Credit Card”) to consult the use of your credit limits. If you used the Additional Limit, the value will be on the left side of the “limit bar”, in gray.

In addition, you can also check your notification history: every time we approve a purchase at Uber via NuPay, Nubank sends a message confirming the purchase and letting you know if it was made using the Additional Limit.

If you are not receiving these messages, check if the Nubank app notifications are activated on your cell phone.

The Additional Limit can be used in the app as a credit card?

The NuPay Additional Limit is an exclusive possibility for finishing trips/orders using NuPay as a payment method.

Remember that the bank’s Additional Limit analysis changes from time to time.

How to disable the Additional Limit?

Please be advised that it is not possible to disable the Additional Limit function.

Is it safer to use NuPay as a payment method?

To start using NuPay in the Uber app, you need to go through an authorization step using your device registered with Nubank, this step consists of entering your 4-digit PIN. With this additional step of verification, the security when using NuPay is increased.

Furthermore, NuPay transactions are approved and authorized directly by Nubank

If the price of the trip changes, how is the payment going to appear in NuPay?

If the final price of the trip is higher than what you initially paid, you will be charged again for the Additional amount.

If the price was lower, you will receive a refund for the difference in a few moments.

How can I request a refund for two charges for the same trip? The trip is not showing up in the app.

If you can’t see two trips of the same (or similar amount) value in the Uber app, it means that one of the charged trips didn’t actually happen and therefore won’t be charged.

The amount will be automatically reversed within 1 day. To check if the value has already been reversed:

  1. Enter the Nubank app and click on “Credit Card”, right on the homepage.
  2. Select “Invoice Summary”(“resumo de faturas”).
  3. Click on the month in which the two transactions took place.
  4. Use the scroll bar to see the details of the month’s transactions.
  5. Reversals made will appear written in green.
