Changes

The ability to change the date, time, or itinerary of your ticket depends on the fare type you selected. Here’s a breakdown of your options:

  • Básico (Basic Fare): This is the most affordable option but cannot be changed.
  • Adulto (General): Typically, these tickets cannot be modified.
  • Elige Estándar/Comfort: You can make one change without any fees. If you need to make a second change, there’s a €10 fee, and you’ll need to pay any fare difference.
  • Premium: You can change your ticket without fees up to 30 minutes before departure (as long as it hasn’t been used). Any fare difference will apply.
  • Ida y Vuelta (Round Trip): You can modify this ticket up to three times without fees, as long as you do it at least 30 minutes before departure. Any fare difference will need to be paid.

Name Changes

Most Renfe tickets are issued without a passenger name, so they can be used by anyone without needing to show ID. If your ticket has a name on it and you need to change it, please contact us, and we’ll assist with the name change.

Travel Classes

Renfe offers three travel classes to choose from:

  • Second Class: Standard seats with power sockets for laptops and mobiles.
  • Second+ Class: First-class seats without lounge access or meal service.
  • First Class: Reclining leather seats, complimentary newspaper, and power sockets. Includes access to club lounges at departure and arrival stations, and a meal served at your seat on weekday AVE services.

Cancellation

If the fare type of your ticket allows for cancellation, you can easily do this through your App, by clicking on ‘Activity’, selecting your journey, and selecting ‘Cancellation Options’. See the options for each fare below:

  • Básico (Basic Fare): This is the cheapest fare that, unfortunately, cannot be cancelled.
  • Adulto (General): Tickets can be cancelled up to five minutes before departure, subject to a 15% fee.
  • Elige Estandar/Comfort: Tickets can be cancelled, subject to a 30% fee.
  • Premium: Tickets can be cancelled up to 7 days before departure without fees. Less than 7 days before departure, cancellation is subject to a 5% fee.
  • Ida y Vuelta: The whole booking can be cancelled minus a 15% fee. However, if you cancel the outbound or inbound tickets separately, the fee is 40%.

Age of passengers

  • Infant: Under 4 years old. You must select a free child’s ticket during the booking process.
  • Child: 4 - 14 years old. A 40% discount is automatically applied to General fares. If the Promo fare is cheaper, your child will receive a Promo ticket instead.
  • Adult: 15 years and older.

Luggage

You can bring up to three pieces of luggage on a Renfe train. Each piece must not exceed 85 x 55 x 35 cm and must weigh no more than 25 kg. Please place your luggage in the designated areas on the train.

Can I travel with my pet?

Yes, you can travel with your pet! However, there are specific conditions, so please check with Renfe directly before your journey. Guide dogs travel for free on all Renfe trains.

Can I travel with my bike?

  • Domestic Journeys: Bikes must be folded or dismantled on AVE, Larga Distancia (long-distance), and Avant trains. They should be stored in a bag or case with a combined dimension not exceeding 180 cm.
  • International Journeys: Bikes travel free if folded and carried in a case not exceeding 120 x 90 cm.
