Split Ticketing is a clever way to save money on train tickets; by using this feature you could get cheaper tickets than buying a single ticket.
How does it work?
You can now ‘split’ your train journey into multiple tickets, instead of buying a single ticket. By doing so, you can take advantage of varying fare prices and therefore save money in most cases.
Fare types and refundability features
Split Ticketing can combine multiple fare types (Advance, Anytime, Off-Peaks etc) with different rules regarding cancellation and exchange terms. This means that Split Ticketing may include tickets with different refundability (fully refundable, semi, non-refundable.) Your ticket’s QR code only features the more restrictive fare type (e.g. Advance single) for split tickets, but the exact details can be viewed at your ticket confirmation email.
How to book split tickets?
Do I need to change trains if I buy split tickets?
If your original journey had no changes, there won’t be any additional disruptions. You won’t need to get off the current train, and you can simply show your second ticket when requested. However, some routes may still require you to change trains and/or platforms, just as you would without split tickets.
Can I still reserve my seat?
If the train operator provides this service, we’ll make every effort to reserve a seat for you. In some instances, you might only be able to reserve a seat for part of your journey, and occasionally, you may need to switch seats or carriages during your trip. Be sure to refer to your ticket for specific seat information.
I’m traveling in a group, will we be able to stay together for the entire journey?
Depending on the train and availability, your group members might not be seated together for the entire journey. Remember to check your ticket for specific details regarding seat assignments.
Can I upgrade?
Unfortunately we do not offer an option to upgrade tickets for UK rail. Instead, passengers can make a simple exchange request by purchasing a new ticket and subsequently claiming a refund for the original ticket.
