Uber now gives you the flexibility to pay for your rides in cash. Here’s how it works and some important tips to ensure a good experience. To request a cash trip, select Cash as your payment method before booking your ride. Uber will match you with a driver who has also opted in to accept cash payments. Please note that only verified riders are eligible to pay in cash. To check if your account is verified or to complete the verification process, go to the “Account” section in the Uber app.
Cash trips are unavailable between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM local time
At the end of the trip, the driver will inform you of the exact amount you need to pay based on the fare displayed in the app. The driver will not provide cash as change. If you overpay, Uber will add the excess amount to your account as Uber Cash after the trip ends, which you can use for future rides. If you don’t have the exact change, you can switch to a supported bank card as your payment method while on the trip. Alternatively, any outstanding balance will need to be repaid in the app before you can request your next ride.
Once your cash trip starts, you will not be able to change your destination or add stops. Be sure to confirm your trip details before booking.
Tipping is not supported in the app for cash trips. If you’d like to tip your driver, you can give them cash directly and let them know the tip amount so they can subtract it from the total fare.
