What are the Benefits of Using an Automated Tracking Source?

Using an automated tracking source should result in fewer tracking calls. It will also improve your tracking automation score on the carrier scorecard. In the future, other benefits may be added.

Can I use more than one tracking method?

Yes. Using multiple tracking methods increases the likelihood of real-time location updates being received.

You’re tracking me through the Uber Freight app, why do you need my ELD data as well?

The Uber Freight app tracks a location when the app is open and on through the entire lifecycle of the load. ELDs are a great way to supplement this visibility because they allow carriers to set up automatic tracking without worrying about cell phone issues. Since ELDs are on during trips, Uber Freight can acquire a location throughout the load which requires less work from the carrier and the driver. However, to receive real-time ELD updates, carriers must provide truck and trailer information on every load as early as possible.

We have our own way to track our drivers, so why do you need to track them constantly?

Uber Freight’s goal is to help our shippers and carriers become more efficient. When the app and ELD data is shared, Uber Freight is able to reduce tracking calls and improve efficiency and safety for carriers.

What is Uber Freight’s preferred method of location sharing?

We recommend that you share your location through the Uber Freight app and another automated option. Using two methods provides real time updates and allows you to communicate with us as needed throughout the load lifecycle (e.g., you can confirm dispatch prior to pickup). These methods also give you visibility into your current status. If your status doesn’t appear as it should, just submit a ‘Live Status Update’ in the app by selecting the headset in the top right corner of the screen.

How can I correctly set up location updates?

In order to match your device to a load for location updates, Uber Freight needs to verify your truck and trailer number by the time of dispatch (at least 3 hours before pick up). You can provide this to an Uber Freight representative at booking, or through the Uber Freight app or web portal. This is required across all of Uber Freight’s ELD and aggregator options. If possible, please provide your truck and trailer information when you book each load.
