In markets where Preferred Currency Pricing is available, Uber may assign your home currency as your preferred currency by default. Preferred Currency Pricing allows riders to see pricing in their familiar home currency — avoiding the hassle of doing currency conversion math when requesting a ride. A conversion fee applies when you choose to pay in your preferred currency instead of the local currency. The applicable fee may vary depending on the preferred currency selected and will be shown before you confirm your ride.
You may update your preference under “Preferred Currency” in your Uber Wallet settings at any time to pay in the local currency and avoid Uber’s conversion fee
If you choose to pay in a preferred currency instead of the local currency, Uber will charge a conversion fee based on the preferred currency used for the transaction. The fee is calculated as a percentage of the total trip fare, including all applicable taxes and fees required by law, but excluding any tips.

Preferred Currency Pricing is available only for on-demand rides such as UberX, UberXL, Uber Black, and Uber Green. Please note that rides like Rentals, Reserve, Scheduled Rides, those with 3rd-party partners, and Uber Eats or Delivery orders are not eligible.
Preferred Currency Pricing is not available for your business profile that is linked to your employer or similar organization, but you’ll still be able to manually opt-in to Preferred Currency Pricing for eligible trips on your personal profile.
Prices will be shown in the currency of the country or region you’re in. Your payment provider may charge foreign currency transaction fees. We recommend checking the terms of your credit/debit card or the selected payment method to learn more about fees that may apply to foreign transactions, to decide which option is best for you.
You may choose to opt out of Preferred Currency Pricing at any time. Simply go to your Wallet, select Set preferred currency, and choose Always pay in local currency.
Preferred Currency Pricing is available for rides taken outside your home country, depending on your home currency and the country where you’re riding.
If your preferred currency is one of the following, you’ll see ride prices in your home currency when riding in these countries or regions:
Preferred Currency Pricing is only available when paying by credit card, debit card, or a digital wallet (e.g., Apple Pay or Google Pay). The following payment options are never eligible, regardless of currency: Split Fare, Uber Cash, Uber Money, Cash, Gift Cards, Alipay, Venmo, and Zaakpay. Additional restrictions apply for certain home currencies:
Changing your payment method will not change the currency selected. If your new payment method is eligible for Preferred Currency Pricing, the selected currency will continue to apply.
Once your ride is confirmed, you may only switch the payment method you would like to use for the trip, not the currency selection. Once you make your currency selection, charges on any new eligible payment method added to your wallet will be processed in your updated preferred currency.
Uber’s Preferred Currency Pricing currency conversion fee described above will only apply to your trip fare at the time of your trip request, and will not be applied to any tip you would like to pay your driver. Tips will be charged in your preferred currency for the corresponding transaction, and the conversion fee will not be applied.
Cancellation fees, clearing of arrears, and changing destinations will all be charged in the same currency as charged on the corresponding transaction.
For all preferred currency transactions, the mid-market exchange rate with no additional markup and may vary by market. You may view the applicable rate in the “Fare breakdown” screen by selecting the tooltip (ℹ icon) on the “confirm details” page before requesting your ride.
