Explaining Hourly trips

Hourly is an Uber app feature that allows riders to book trips charged by the hour, with a minimum booking time of two hours. This option is exclusive to qualified Uber Black or Premier drivers.

How to opt-in for Hourly trips

If you’re a qualified driver, here’s how to opt in for Hourly trips:

  • Open your Driver app and select the menu in the bottom right corner to access the Trip Planner.
  • Tap the Preferences icon located in the bottom left of the Trip Planner page.
  • Switch on Hourly trip request.

Remember: * To stop getting Hourly trip requests, simply toggle the trip type off. * Tapping Reset will clear your filters and allow you to receive all trip types you are eligible for. * You can turn off Black or Premier Hourly trips at any time in your app preferences.

Accepting Black or Premier Hourly trips

When an Hourly trip is available, it will appear as “Black Hourly” or “Premier Hourly” on the Driver app offer card, indicating the hours and maximum trip mileage requested. Feel free to cancel if needed.

Stops during Hourly Trips

Riders can request and update multiple stops during their trip. Time spent at these stops counts toward the Hourly service. Discuss stop durations and pickup locations with your rider beforehand.

Black / Premier Hourly service area

The Hourly service is not offered for airport trips or destinations outside your city’s service area. Find your service area at Uber Cities.

Trip duration

  • Hourly trip durations, ranging from 2 to 7 hours, are decided by you and your riders.
  • Trips automatically end after 8 hours in the app.
  • Riders may request more time during the trip, which you can accept or decline.

Pricing details

Here’s how drivers earn with Hourly trips:

  • A minimum hourly rate is guaranteed, minus a service fee.
  • Time overage: You’ll earn an extra per-minute rate if the trip lasts longer than scheduled. This rate varies by city.
  • Distance overage: You’ll get an extra per-mile rate if you go beyond the agreed mileage. This rate also varies by city.
  • Find overage rates in the app’s fares portal.

Surcharges and tolls are additional charges for the rider. After five minutes of waiting at their first pickup, the rider incurs wait time fees, and if the rider doesn’t show within 15 minutes, you’ll receive a cancellation fee.

Cancellation fees

There are different cancellation scenarios and fees:

For trips accepted less than 2 hours in advance:

  • Cancellation by the rider over 5 minutes after you’ve accepted, while you’re on the way: $10 fee.
  • Rider no-show at pickup after 15 minutes: $20 fee.

For trips accepted more than 2 hours in advance:

  • Riders canceling more than 60 minutes ahead: No charge.
  • Riders canceling within 60 minutes: You earn a fee equal to two times the hourly rate.
