Courier Delivery FAQ

Understanding Courier

Courier is a feature that lets drivers in select cities earn extra money by delivering packages. You can opt-in to Courier package deliveries by signing up for Deliveries and toggling on the delivery preference in your app.

Below are some quick FAQs about Courier, and you can view more here.

Accepting delivery requests

When you receive a package delivery request on the Driver app, you can accept or decline it, just like ride requests. You may get Meet at Door requests where you’ll deliver the package directly to the recipient’s door or meet at the curb, depending on the selected option.

Package delivery guidelines

To ensure safety and compliance, Courier must follow local laws and Uber’s policies for packages. Drivers can only deliver smaller, low-value packages that are closed, securely sealed and ready to be delivered. A package may also not contain any prohibited items such as people, animals, illegal goods, weapons, drugs, alcohol, etc. See below for more information:

  • Package must weigh under 30 pounds
  • Package value is less than $200 total per trip
  • Package should easily fit in your vehicle’s trunk
  • Package may not contain any prohibited items. View complete list of prohibited items.

If you suspect prohibited items

If you think a package includes prohibited or illegal items, follow the below steps:

For unaccepted packages: 1. Report the issue in the app 2. Decline and cancel the delivery in the app by choosing Suspicious item

If you are already in possession of a package with potentially illegal contents: 1. Cancel the delivery 2. Contact local authorities. F 3. Follow the authorities’ instructions for how to manage the item. Use the Proof of Trip Status tool to show officers your current app activity.

How to complete Courier deliveries

  1. Accept the request in the Driver app
  2. Get to the sender’s location, where they’ll place the package in your vehicle
  3. Drive to the drop-off spot for the recipient to collect the package.
  4. If you are using a PIN for proof of delivery, enter the 4-digit PIN in your app. One successful, the trip will conclude, and you’ll see a confirmation message in the app.

Proof of delivery

Sometimes at drop-off, you might need to get a PIN from the recipient. If so, follow these steps: 1. Go to the recipient’s location with your phone 2. Enter the provided 4-digit PIN into your app 3. After successful entry, your trip concludes with a confirmation message

If no PIN is available:

  • If a recipient can’t supply the PIN, tap I need help or Can’t confirm PIN in your app to reach the sender
  • If you still can’t confirm the PIN, but the recipient is present, select Deliver without PIN.
  • If the recipient isn’t at the delivery destination, choose Unable to deliver and reach out to Uber Support for further assistance.

Common package delivery issues

  • If the recipient isn’t at the drop-off location within 5 minutes of your arrival, contact the sender via the app to organize delivery
  • If you’re asked to return the package or leave it at the door, ensure you have those directions in writing from the sender
  • If you can’t contact the sender or recipient after waiting for more than 5 minutes, ask Uber Support for help
  • If you experience any other issues delivering packages, please contact Uber Support

Canceling a delivery request

You can decline or cancel a delivery without violating Uber’s Community Guidelines. If you’ve accepted a delivery and must cancel due to prohibited or hazardous items, do so in the app and report the situation to your local authorities.

Note: if a delivery is called off after you’ve already started heading to or arrived at the pickup location, you will be paid a cancellation fee.
