City of Toronto Driver Training Requirements

To drive with Uber in the City of Toronto, all new driver applicants must complete a third-party training program recognized by the city. Current licensed drivers will also need to complete this training by a deadline to be announced once additional training providers are recognised.

Note: Completion of your training is required before you begin driving in Toronto.

You can find a list of city-recognised training providers here.

Uploading your Driver Training Certificate

After completing your driver training, you’ll need to upload your Driver Training Certificate to your Uber account.

How to upload your certificate

  1. Download your Driver Training Certificate from your training provider
  2. Sign in to drivers.uber.com or open the Driver app
  3. Tap your profile photo or menu icon to open the main menu
  4. Tap Account and select Documents
  5. Find the slot labeled [City of Toronto Requirement] Training Certificate
  6. Tap Take photo or Upload an existing one
  7. Upload the PDF file or a clear photo of your certificate

Tips for successful uploads

  • Ensure the document is the Driver Training Certificate
  • The image or PDF must be clear and legible
  • All four corners of the document must be visible
  • No information should be missing or obscured

If your document is declined, check that it meets the above requirements and resubmit.

Getting your Private Transportation Company (PTC) licence

If your vehicle is 7 years or newer, we’ll submit an application to the City of Toronto for your Private Transportation Company (PTC) license once you’ve met all of the driving requirements for Toronto.

Once all required documents have been uploaded, are active, and have passed the audit, you can expect to be licensed within 20 business days.

You will receive an email from Uber with a physical copy of your license card. You must carry this physical card while driving with Uber; failure to do so could result in a fine up to $240.

Please take a screenshot of your card and save it on your phone, as the original document link will expire in 30 days.

Please keep in mind that neither Uber nor the City of Toronto can expedite the process or provide an update until the 20 business days have passed.

Once the 20 business days have elapsed, you may contact support for further assistance.

Options for vehicles older than 7 years

If your vehicle is older than 7 years, you cannot pick up riders in Toronto, Mississauga, or Oakville.

However, you may still drive in the GTA, including Brampton, Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Pickering, Ajax, and Oshawa, and make deliveries with Uber Eats and Uber Connect trips all across the GTA—including the City of Toronto.
