Vehicle Requirements

The vehicles that are eligible for ridesharing (UberX) meet the following requirements:

  • ANCAP 5-star rated or fall under our vehicle exemption policy
  • Are in excellent working condition
  • No cosmetic damage (e.g. scuff marks, scratches and indentations such as hail damage)
  • No commercial branding/decals (e.g. graphics or wraps greater than 20cm by 20cm) or taxi colour paint jobs
  • Are registered and CTP-insured in NSW
  • 15 years old or newer
  • Have 4 doors
  • Seats 4-11 passengers plus the driver
  • Have working windows and air conditioning
  • Are able to pass a vehicle inspection
  • Are not taxis, government, branded or rebuilt vehicles

If you do not own a vehicle that meets the above requirements to drive with UberX, you may consider 1 of these 3 options:

  1. Borrow from a friend or family.
  2. Hire a car - we can connect you with vehicle solutions providers who have special offers for driver-partners.
  3. Be an Uber Eats delivery person.

If you use a vehicle you don’t personally own, you must be listed as an insured driver on this vehicle’s insurance policy. Uber can’t approve a vehicle if the driver partner’s name isn’t on the insurance document.
