What tax documents do I receive?

You could receive 3 types of tax documents from us:

  • 1099-K: An official IRS tax document that includes all gross earnings from orders. Not all merchants will receive a 1099-K. You’ll receive a 1099-K form if your gross earnings from orders are $5,000 or more. For further information, please refer to the IRS website.

    • Certain states have implemented lower reporting thresholds, so you might receive a 1099-K for amounts below $5,000. Also, merchants who have backup withholding during the year will receive a 1099-K regardless of any federal or state thresholds. Backup withholding tax will be reported in Box 4 on 1099-K form.

    • See the IRS website for understanding your 1099-K.

  • 1099-NEC: An official IRS tax document providing a summary of promotion, referral, and other miscellaneous payments for the year. If you’ve earned $600 or more from non-customer payments, such as referrals or promotions, you’ll receive a 1099-NEC form from Uber. Please visit IRS.gov for additional details.

  • 1099-MISC: An official IRS tax document providing a summary of other income such as prizes, legal settlements, and so on. Only merchants who received $600 or more of these types of payments will receive a 1099-MISC.

Annual summary: If you don’t receive any of the 1099 forms described above, you’ll still get an Uber tax summary. Although it’s not an official tax document, it has important information you can use to file your taxes. It gives a breakdown of your annual earnings and business expenses that might be tax -deductible. What you can deduct depends on how your business is set up.
