Is insurance already included in my rental?

Your rental comes with Basic Insurance as part of the package. As well as third party liability, this insurance also covers damage to the car’s bodywork and theft but excludes damage or loss of keys, tyres, windscreen, glass, or the undercarriage. You will still be responsible for any excess.

To fully understand the specifics of what is covered and the exact amount of excess, it’s recommended to check with the rental agent at the desk or call the number provided in your FAQs.

What is an excess and how can I remove it?

Excess is the amount determined by the car rental supplier for which you are held liable in case of damage/theft during the rental. When you pick up your car, the car rental company will place a hold for the excess amount on the main driver’s credit card as a deposit in case of damage. The hold will be removed when the car is returned with no new damage, but the amount could take a few days to be available in your account. To find out more information please review your rental terms and conditions and the rental company’s FAQs. You have the option to purchase full protection offered during the booking process in the Uber app. The full protection is offered through RentalCover and can lower your excess to 0€.

How can I purchase full protection?

During the booking process, on the ‘Car details’ page, you can purchase the full protection where the amount will vary per supplier, vehicle type, and duration of booking. You can also check the fare breakdown before completing the booking under the ‘Review reservation’ page.

Your confirmation email will include your policy number, FAQs, and steps to download the certificate of insurance. Upon clicking the link provided, you will be required to provide your Uber account’s email address and your insurance policy number.

What am I covered for?

Depending on your protection, you may be covered for: Theft, bodywork damage, doors, windows, mirrors, wheels and tires. * Roof and underbody damage to the vehicle. * Key loss, replacement or lock out which is often not covered by rental companies. * Accident-related fees that rental companies may charge including administration/processing fees, loss of use fees, towing, relocation and more.

How can I submit a claim with RentalCover?

It’s important that you retrieve your confirmation email from RentalCover and click the link to activate your RentalCover Account. If you can’t find your e-mail from RentalCover, please make sure to check your spam or promotional folders. Once activated you can file claims, view your policy wording, access further support options and easily contact RentalCover.

Why is the rental company asking me to purchase additional insurance?

Do I need additional insurance from the rental company?

RentalCover Full Protection provides comprehensive protection that is sufficient for standard car rentals with vehicle excess and additional benefits covered. So, you can say ‘no’ to the hard sell for collision damage waivers, or similar excess reduction products at the pick-up desk — you’re already protected! You can check your rental agreement and also view the RentalCover Full Protection inclusions and exclusions at the point of making your booking. If your rental company requires specific coverage not included in RentalCover Full Protection you may want to purchase additional coverage.

How can I view my RentalCover Full Protection details?

To view your RentalCover Full Protection coverage details:

  1. Log in to your RentalCover Account using your email and booking reference (ending in “-INS”). You can find this in the subject line of your protection purchase confirmation email.
  2. Navigate to your name at the top right corner and select ‘Your protection’ from the dropdown.
  3. Go to the protection you’d like details for and select “View wording” to view or download your protection terms and conditions.
