Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is the minimum I’m guaranteed to earn?

A: You are guaranteed minimum earnings of $34.48 per hour for active time on rides that begin in Massachusetts. Active time starts when you’re on your way to pick up a rider and ends when you drop them off. For a full breakdown, see our Minimum Earnings Guarantee page.

Q: What happens if my earnings are below the guarantee?

A: Your earnings are reviewed over a two-week period. If your total earnings from fares and on-trip incentives are less than the guaranteed minimum for your active time, you will automatically receive a supplemental top-up payment.

Q: How do I earn Paid Sick Leave (PSL)?

A: You earn 1 hour of PSL for every 30 hours of active time, up to a maximum of 40 hours per year. This time is paid at a rate of $21.22 per hour. Learn more on the Paid Sick Leave (PSL) page.

Q: What is the Driver Portable Health Fund?

A: You may be eligible for a quarterly cash stipend to help pay for a qualifying health insurance plan. Eligibility depends on your average weekly active hours across both Uber and Lyft. For full details on how to qualify, see the Driver Portable Health Fund page.

Q: What kind of insurance is provided?

A: As of October 1, 2024, you are covered by occupational accident insurance at no cost, which helps with medical expenses and lost earnings from a covered accident. You also receive a quarterly payment to help cover the cost of enrolling in the state’s Paid Family Medical Leave program. Learn more on our Insurance & Paid Family Medical Leave page.

Q: Are these benefits taxable?

A: Additional earnings payments, the value of insurance premiums paid by Uber, and healthcare stipends may be reported as taxable income. We recommend consulting with a tax professional for advice.

Q: How can I see my active time and benefits?

A: You can find all your benefits information, including active time and PSL balance, in the MA Benefits Hub located in the Earnings section of the Driver App.
