Verifying driving history

Basic requirements

To drive with Uber, you need a valid U.S. driver’s license. Here’s what else you need based on your age:

  • Under 25 years old: You must have at least 3 years of U.S. driving experience.
  • 25 years or older: You must have at least 1 year of U.S. driving experience.

Note for california drivers: You must be at least 25 years of age to drive with Uber in California, regardless of your driving experience.

New or recently changed licenses

If your license is new or was recently issued (less than a year old), for example, if you’ve moved states or replaced a lost license, we need extra information to verify your driving history. You’ll need to provide details from your previous license.

How to provide proof

  1. Gather your documentation that shows your past driving history.
  2. Access your account through the Driver app or by visiting drivers.uber.com.
  3. Upload the necessary information to your account. Refer to this page for more information.

This step is specifically for driving with Uber, not for completing deliveries.

Massachusetts drivers

If you’re applying to drive in Massachusetts, and within the last 5 years you’ve had a driver’s license issued by a different U.S. state than your current license, you must provide the out-of-state license(s).

  • You’ll be asked to fill out a questionnaire during the onboarding process to determine what documentation is required.

Remember to ensure that all documentation is up to date and adheres to the driving requirements in your state. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Uber Support for assistance.
