Currently Uber in Japan, offers upfront price for the following products: Uber Premier, Uber Premier Van, Uber Private Car and Kaga Rideshare.
An upfront price is the price quoted and displayed before you request a ride (instead of a price range). Upfront prices are calculated using the expected time, distance of the trip and local traffic and tolls, as well as how many riders and nearby drivers are using Uber at that moment. (For Uber Private Car and Kaga Rideshare, Upfront prices are calculated using the expected distance of the trip.)
You may be charged a different amount than your upfront price for the following reasons.
Change in destination or pickup point:
- If you change your pickup point or destination after you request a trip, your price may be charged based on the time and distance of your actual trip.
Additional stops:
- If you add stop(s) after requesting the trip, your price will be recalculated based on the actual time of the trip/distance and then charged. Please add stops from your app when you have multiple stops.
Change in route:
- If your driver needs to drive a different route than the estimated route with your consent, you may charged a different price than the upfront fare according to the actual route your driver has taken.
- If you believe this price change happened unfairly, please let us know from this page.
Heavy traffic, traffic obstacles and wait time fee:
- In case of unexpected traffic jams, your trip may take longer to get to your destination than expected. This might cause upfront prices to be updated as the time of the traffic jam your driver spent needs to be compensated to the drivers.
- Waiting fees may be charged when your driver arrives at your pick-up location and waits for more than 5 mins.
Express way:
- An upfront price including a toll will be shown in your app when requesting a ride (except Kaga Rideshare). However, the fee might be updated to the actual fare according with the actual toll gate usage.
- A toll will be shown in the breakdown of your receipt.
Surge:
- When the usage of rides increases in a situation such as bad weather, surge pricing may apply to maintain the balance of supply and demand.
