When a trip request is canceled or the rider doesn’t arrive at the pickup location, you may be paid a cancellation fee.

Cancellation policy:

  • If a rider cancels more than 2 minutes after you’ve accepted their trip and you’re making progress toward their pickup location, you’ll be paid either the standard cancellation fee or the rate for the actual time and distance you spent driving towards the pickup, whichever is more.
  • If a rider doesn’t arrive at the pickup location within 7 minutes of your arrival, you’ll be eligible for a cancellation fee.

For UberX Share trips, you’ll receive a cancellation fee if:

  • A rider cancels more than 60 seconds after you’ve accepted their UberX Share trip and you’re making progress toward their pickup location
  • A rider doesn’t arrive at the pickup location within 2 minutes of your arrival

The fine print:

  • Fee amounts vary by trip type (UberX, UberX Share, Uber Black, etc.) and city. You can read more about this at partners.uber.com under fares.
  • Time- and distance-based cancellation fees apply when you’re off-trip (no rider in your vehicle) and heading to a pickup, except for Uber Black and Uber SUV trips.
  • Uber reserves the right to withhold, deduct, or reduce any cancellation fee payments if they are determined to be in error, fraudulent, or in violation of Driver terms.
  • When you arrive at the pickup location, a countdown timer will appear in the app. If it reaches zero and the rider hasn’t arrived, you’re eligible for a cancellation fee.
  • Cancellation fees will appear on your trip history and payment statement, and they vary by vehicle class and city.
  • The Uber Fee applies to the cancellation fee.
  • Time and distance pricing does not apply to Uber Reserve, which is paid as an upfront fare.
