In accordance with Prop 22, to help you with your healthcare costs, Uber will pay a quarterly healthcare stipend for eligible California drivers and couriers. Taking the stipend is entirely your choice—but to get it, all California drivers and couriers must opt-in and provide proof of their eligible healthcare enrollment each quarter.
The healthcare stipend benefit is only applicable for trips starting in the state of California.
To receive a healthcare stipend, you’ll need to meet the following criteria:
A qualifying plan is one that you purchased through Covered California or another individual market plan paid for directly by you.
If you purchased an individual health plan other than Covered California, it must meet the ACA requirement for minimum essential coverage.
Examples of other plans that do qualify, if purchased in the manner described above:

Guidance from the State of California on choosing the healthcare plan that works for you can be found here.
Proof of enrollment should be uploaded in the Documents Hub in the driver app. A health insurance membership card, coverage form, or letter detailing your plan is considered sufficient proof of enrollment, as long as it contains the following information:
Proof of enrollment documents can be uploaded up until 15 calendar days after the end of a calendar period.
You’ll need to update the proof of enrollment for the prior quarter before the deadline–which is 15 days after the end of the quarter.
You also need to upload an approved proof of healthcare enrollment within 15 days of the end of the quarter showing coverage for the quarter to be eligible for the healthcare stipend.
On-trip time includes time spent from accepting a trip to completing a trip, for both rides and deliveries, and can be tracked in the Earnings section of your driver app. Tips and amounts such as toll refunds, cartop, and referral payments are excluded from your net earnings.
Proposition 22 establishes the quarterly healthcare stipend amount as 82% of the average statewide monthly premium for an individual Covered California bronze health insurance plan contribution. The quarterly stipend amount is calculated by multiplying that value by 3 (the total number of months in the calendar quarter).
The average statewide monthly premium for Covered California is updated on or before September 1, every year by Covered California. Please refer to the Covered California site for the most updated and historical average statewide monthly premium amounts.
Why are only California drivers and couriers eligible for the healthcare stipend?
California voters overwhelmingly approved Prop 22 in November 2020 which afforded California drivers and couriers with historic benefits and protections which include the optional healthcare stipend.
I only drive part-time, am I still eligible for the healthcare stipend?
As long as you average at least 15 active hours per week per calendar quarter.
My documents were rejected, what do I do?
If the documents you submit are rejected, you’ll receive a notification explaining why. If you believe it was a mistake, the notice will include instructions on how to resubmit your qualifying documentation.
